I think we should give it a try first before declaring it dead.
It might help to have some contingency plans in mind for when it doesn't
And you'd be the dumbest person who ever lived to think it will

The government takes more than this of every company already. I'm open to it if it offsets taxes, and if it creates an impenetrable firewall between the gov and the internal business decisions of the private sector. If it's simply a citizen's mutual fund and is disbursed in the form of direct tax credits to tax paying citizens, I would take time to learn more.

You won't have any taxes to pay if you don't have a job

I wouldn't want this to be a job replacement scheme. I would want it to replace taxes on citizens and companies.
This is all just thought exercise bullshite. No matter the intent, we'd frick it up.

I'm thinking one of systems ran RISC and if I'm not mistaken it was the Radiology system. I know we had some UNIX stuff but don't remember what. Much of what we had was still running on mainframe with an emulator for GUI. This was in the early 2000s I think.
I stayed away from the hardware/software stuff. We had an ex IBM guy who handled all that. Tried to teach me RPG II back in the system/36 days. He failed.

I think most employed people prefer it not be one
But we may not have a choice in the matter

Sure, but I hope some people are at least having these discussions because they definitely need to be had.

The value of 10% of all public companies is $6.8 trillion. If it went completely unmanaged, that could produce $680billion in additional value or disbursements annually. So theoretically reducing everyones tax liability by 10%. Not bad. Not great relative to our expenses.
We'd still need to collect SSDI and Medicare taxes to cover that, but that's either giving every American a $2k tax credit, or more if you don't make it a refundable credit.

This is a theoretical in the event that jobs are no longer necessary
But I don't see how it creates enough value to fund any sort of life unless the values of these companies go absolutely vertical

I won't claim to know if this is a good idea or not. But expect more ideas like this to come about in the coming months/years if the AI jobs apocalypse is what some fear it could be.
This is just the beginning. My post on the 24th about our overall economy in the future.

Ai is going to change things. There are numerous theories that at some point most businesses will be government owned and Ai, robots, automation, will handle most jobs. People will no longer work but be given money/credits, etc.. to live on by the government.

U.S. government could take a 10% stake in all public corporations and redistribute that corporate wealth to the public at large.
Oh, communism. Yay

We don’t have that now. You think they’re going to willingly cede even more power when they can claim to own 10%?

The logic of the free market does not include guarantees of everyone doing well. Those are the hallmarks of marxist/communist.

No, I don't think they would. I believe one of my later posts cleared this up.

But if it produces a society where no one is doing well then it needs to be lit on fire and thrown in the dumpster
We may be coming to that point in the next few years

Sure. If no one is doing well. Yes start over.
