A graphic used by CNN to break down speakers at the Republican National Convention described Nick Sandmann as someone who “sued major media outlets over viral video,” leaving out important details, including their own settlement.

The graphic, spotted by reporter Cameron Gray, also provided no image for Sandmann, despite doing so for others.

While CNN’s description is technically correct, it is quite misleading. It is true Sandmann sued major media outlets, including CNN, but these were defamation suits stemming from a 2019 video showing the former Covington Catholic High School student seemingly mocking Nathan Phillips, a Native American protester taking part in the Indigenous Peoples March.

The video shown by CNN and others was a deceptively edited video that only showed a portion of the ‘confrontation.’ This was done despite the full video being available on YouTube. The smaller clip spread like wildfire and appeared to show Sandmann and his classmates who attended a March for Life event as harassers of Phillips and other activists, but the full clip proved the opposite was true.

quote:

CNN’s very loose description of these events did not go unnoticed by close observers on social media, who saw it as just another example of the network’s deceptive and biased news coverage and were quick to remind them of the facts.

CNN: A large corporation who settled for defamation of a minor.

This is how they should be referred to from here forward.

Didn't House Eunich Brian Stelter just recently remark about how Trump deals in lies and misconceptions?

Should commence his speech by saying, "hey Acosta, I'm enjoying spending your Christmas bonus money."

Such dishonesty from CNN< such lack of integrity.

Sandman was ONE video away (showing the ACTUAL events, exculpating him)... from a lifetime of being thought of nearly as badly as the cop in Minneapolis.

The vile fervor against this 16 year old, by adults, for a 24 hour period was sickening.

Well, that’s exactly what he’s known for. With all the shady and biased “reporting“ CNN does on an hourly basis, this doesn’t move the needle for me.

Not to defend CNN, but what did you expect. They will be limited in what they can say, and at the same time don't want to say this is the guy that made us his bitch.

There is no honesty in the so-called press. They Either make shite up or misrepresent things blatantly.

The problem is I do not see many people doing their own research or people are extremely limited due to their self-imposed echo chamber.

One would think after settling their lawsuit, they might not want to discuss Sandman at all. I'm sure his lawyer is paying attention to anything they say.

Can’t blame CNN on this one. I’d be bitter too if I got my shite pushed on on a national stage by a minor.

CNN can't say anything derogatory about Sandmann, or they'll find their asses back in Court.

They might not even legally be able to say his name. That graphic might have actually been the only way to legally describe him.
