I guess CNN and the other liberal fake news outlets have figured they are so far in it now that they may as well ride it to the bitter end.

Break a fake news story with thunderous coverage.
Retract quietly and ambiguously.
Continue to cover it as a "search for the truth".
This is essentially how Russia is being covered. They all know it's bs, but they can cover it forever in some search for evidence one way or another, knowing they'll find neither and knowing it artificially props up the idea that the story real all along.

Facts don’t matter anymore, this is their way of showing that they have “won” and swayed public opinion and that’s why they use the language “believe.” Trump gets validated about the media weekly and they wonder why he trashed them any chance he gets
