What happened to civility?

Republicans ran McCain and he was "a dryed up war mongering POS and his idiot VP nominee was a stupid c*nt"

Republicans ran Romney and he "was going to put black people in chains again"

Was only a matter of time before people grew tired of the left's bullshite and started punching back.

Civility? Where it went is when the country killed the duel. You used to have to be a man to call Aaron Burr a scummy, immoral, liar. You might get shot.

Meanwhile, this board of conservatives is praying for McCain to die and loathes Mitt Romney

I don't personally like social media, but generally think the world is in a better place with the proliferation of cable channels/radio programs/internet sites/social media platforms due to exchange of information at such a rapid pace. That said, the world was a more peaceful place 20 years ago when we were only presented "opposing" viewpoints by whoever was on Meet the Press. They'd put up two RINO/DINO cucks and we'd come away from the debate respecting the other side. Now, everyone retreats to his/her echo chamber for talking points (TD is a rare exception on that) and everyone becomes more polarized than they already were. Civility is mostly dead. I sometimes call my incredible mother a brainwashed retard when she tells me about what Maddow said today.

Spot on, man. Things have changed dramatically and we do typically fall back into our echo chambers.

The interesting thing about those 'old days' was the Fairness Doctrine being in place, essentially requiring equal air time for opposing viewpoints. Reagan did away with it and it hasn't returned since. I do sometimes wonder if balancing out some of the news networks, especially cable news opinion shows, would benefit from having a form of the Fairness Doctrine in place. Would Joy Reid be as militantly leftist as she is if she consistently had voices from the right on her show keeping her in check? What about Hannity?

RINOs and DINOs suck but, like you say, shite was much more civil back in those days and the country moved along just fine without all the arguing.

It’s kinda the point, counterintuitive as it may be.

Republicans ran very moderate candidates against whom the same tired Democrat tropes and cliches were trotted out (quite effectively) (while the candidates largely hid and “played nice”). So the rank and file Republicans don’t really care for “playing nice.” They know it’s not going to be returned even if we adopted every Democrat position save one.

No. Not just no, but hell no. As much as current media is with few exceptions lock-step with the democrats, I want nothing to do with anything resembling a "Fairness Doctrine"

If the citizens of this country are too stupid to not see the blatantly partisan bullshite pumped out by the MSM...well...this country deserves what it gets as a result.

Hell yes it does. Dude, I get incredibly pissed reading some of this shite. I've told people to kill themselves tonight. You think I'm proud of that?

Seriously, this country is NOT in a good place right now with how divided we are. It's all fun and games to get online and talk shite to those you disagree with but when those opinions start seeping into your everyday life and factor into how you judge people, man, that's not fricking good. I'm definitely guilty. I live in a very red county and I see some folks with their Trump stickers and shite and there's no doubt I immediately think they're a fricking idiot. That's horrible but I know I'm not alone.

We need to pull our heads out of our asses. Hopefully we get some leadership in this country who, somehow someway, can begin to bring us back together. If not, shite is going to get ugly.

The fairness doctrine contributed to civil discourse because there was only 1 viewpoint...the left’s.
