This is such a bad idea in so many ways it's amazing that anyone would have the gall to try it.

Not to mention cwill's description of discovery leaves out a very important piece. Discovery isn't carte blanch. While all discovery material does not need to be admissible...it does need to have a reasonable basis that it will lead to admissible evidence. I'd love to hear him articulate how sermon transcripts could lead to admissible evidence.
I don't know how they'd do it as I'm not privy to the guts of the litigation or the basis of the legal challenge, but had they been a party to the lawsuit, I think just about any paper in their possession would have been subject to discovery...you don't need much to get at just about anything. I'd expect in that instance, too, that a motion for a protective order would be filed. However, I don't see what there would be to hide. It's simply the text of what they have or would say publicly. Are they ashamed of what they preach?

All the Pastors should just send in a Bible with a note saying "they are all in here"

Preaching on homosexuality being a sin is now deemed "hate speech".

I had a conversation with my SO about this tonight. He, too, wasn't overly concerned with the bathroom issue and said it wouldn't bother him if a lady was in the men's room. But, I'm really bothered by it. There's nothing to prevent some perv from just hanging out in the ladies'. I would feel very uncomfortable going into a restroom and finding it occupied by myself and a strange man. I'd have to be escorted to the restroom. I think it's a ridiculous idea and, like you said, makes the majority uncomfortable so the few don't get their feelings hurt. I have always had a live and let live attitude and have laughed it off when people held out extreme examples of what could come of it. And now I'm wondering if they weren't right all along. There has to be rules and norms within a society.
The "bathroom" clause didn't permit men to use women's restrooms...anyway the clause was dropped back in May.

turn over any sermons dealing with homosexuality, gender identity or Annise Parker,
I thought the only thing forbidden by a Pastor from the pulpit was to endorse one candidate over another. Why else would the lesbian mayor want sermons preached about gays and transgenders other than to label as "hate speech"?

Doesn't matter if they are or if they aren't. Their enthusiasm for their own preachings isn't the issue. Having government approve or disapprove of the words being delivered from the pulpit is something only a fool would endorse.

just not as over-the-top crazy land as first glance
quote:Oh, and BTW the "alleged irregularities" from the petitions are also bogus.
The pastors were not part of the lawsuit.
The point of these actions is to intimidate and silence opposing views - Governmental over-reach at it's absolute over-the-top crazy worst!

If you don't want people to look at your pvt docs don't file a lawsuit and expose them to discovery.

In the end, it's two groups of people flinging shite at each other over the issue of who can use which bathroom.

I'm thinking Mayor Parker is taking things a little too far.
Ya think? Is she going to threaten the Muslims do that? Because, if so, she's going to run into a "got beheaded" or "got stoned to death" problem.

What would be the effect of anyone labeling Welch's sermons as "hate speech"?
