China’s economy lost steam in April, underscoring the fragility of the world’s second-largest economy as it girds for an intensified face-off with the U.S. over trade.

Industrial output, retail sales and investment all slowed more than economists forecast. The state sector continued to boost investment while private business eased off, and growth in manufacturing investment came in at the slowest pace in data dating back to 2004.

Faltering credit and consumption at home coupled with a weaker global economy means China is running out of steady growth engines right when it needs them. The soggy data spurred expectations the government will need to boost stimulus to cushion the blow from the escalating trade war, sending Asian stocks mostly higher. The yuan was little changed.

U.S. President Donald Trump rolled out 25% tariffs last week, leaving Chinese producers reeling. There’s a chance such levies will be widened to all the Chinese goods America buys.

“The double dip is confirmed,” said Lu Ting, chief China economist at Nomura Holdings Inc. in Hong Kong. “We expect Beijing to significantly ramp up easing/stimulus measures to stabilize financial markets and bolster growth, despite the more limited policy room than in previous easing cycles.”

This is what happens when you try to run an economy on 700 million rice farmers and IB Trinkets.

How much more QE can they possibly do? They've papered over their whole economy like a damn pinata, and the Trump tariffs are

Well the Chinese claim to think long term in a planned economy.

So they either expect us to cave in and accept property theft, forced partnerships, currency manipulation, predatory pricing, and governmental controls on our businesses, or they prefer 25% tariffs than fair trade.

One must wonder just how one sided the current relationship is.

China thought they could play Trump. They need us more than we need them. If we stay the course they will fold. It use to be said that something was as worthless as a Chinese ultimatum. If we start taking our business to other countries, they will be in a world of hurt.

Exports declined last month in total, were down double digit to the US, manufacturing drop off (which means weak exports for May) and retail is not picking up the slack.

The good thing about the tariff increase this time, they were not given a lead time where they loaded in for six months, so you will see the impact in the next month or two.

They pumped 865 billion in credit in Feb which was 12% more than THE TOTAL OF LAST YEAR and the impact lasted a month. They simply are getting very little bang for the buck on every dollar injected now. Its no wonder. They continue to throw money at state run companies, who make concrete and steel and build roads and ports in foreign countries, then give them loans to pay the money back which they arent doing.

If they continue down the stimulus path, it wont be a matter of them "outlasting" us, the financial markets of the world will decide their fate for them.

The Chinese haven propped up their economy with Obamanamics for the past 10 years. Print money,
Print more money, print a ton of money.

They can’t maintain that path for 6 more years. It will be fun to watch the collapse of their country and hopefully the end of communism there.

I.B.A. Dumbass is going to have a really bad next 6 years.

China will try their hardest to get their puppet Biden or (insert Democrat here) in charge to continue their plunder of the US. Their negotiating strategy was to keep Trump stuck in negotiations for as long as possible to wait him out. If Trump wins reelection then they will likely make some concessions but push hard for shorter terms in the deal so that they can more quickly return to the status quo under the next president.

China must have forgot about India and the rest of Asia manufacturing can be pushed to.

America can go a year or two without worthless cheap Chinese crap.
