It's weird that you view these statements as mutually exclusive.
Nothing weird about it. The idea that our wages would be higher with less effecient production of goods is silly. If that were true,we should be eliminating automation, using paint brushes instead of sprayers, banning nail guns and using hammers, banning trackhoes and excavators, etc.

Unions.

We may not get that answer from them today, but it's coming.

There are plenty of old people and retirees working grocery stores McDs etc.

Sure, but high schoolers still have opportunities for those entry level jobs.

The restaurant industry never recovered from COVID. I worked in 2 different restaurants in hike school.

Read anc's thread which bursts a few of their bubbles from a pro-Trump X account

Prices? Will rise as part of the plan. That's a biggie they hate to admit.

Meh my grocery buddy says then hire older folks, why hire a kid with zero work ethic when you can get grampa for the same wage.

Actually, I've been predicting that rightist populists will begin to support unions

Get rid of the "rightist" and it makes perfect sense. Unions are textbook populist organizations.

Yes. Both things can be true. And are.

Correct. This was always the natural progression of Trump's populism.

They will just re-define what "rightist" means, as they have done since 2016, when I became a "Leftists" for being against more government intervention, government-based redistribution, unions, etc.

And you think we can "bring the jobs back" within that paradigm? Where you think our already most expensive workforce should be paid more? How?

No, I freely admit this. The goal is for wages to also rise so the up.

You know, in opposition to the previous system where prices rise and wages don't keep up.

That's the government-forced redistribution aspect of it.

Take from the productive to give to the unproductive.

Other than bourbon, what exactly does China import from the US?

Rice and grain. Shitloads of it too.

Note: we have a pivot to emotional arguments

I'll let you try a response based in fact and logic before I declare that a white flag.

Tariffs are so bad - Its so obvious, that's why so many countries have tariffs on us (Guess they're all wrong). Make it make sense.

while you argue we should not pay them at all, because US workers are underpaid.

Absolutely.

It's coming, and soon, and probably as a result of all of this tariff stuff.

Once they (finally) realize that tariffs are not enough to create an unskilled middle class in 'Muh 'Merca that can graduate high school and work in a factory for 40 years and retire in a five bedroom house with two new cars in the driveway, they will turn to unions to try to make that happen.

'Cause, you know. Corporate greed and such.
