This is why we should’ve never been dealing with China in the first place. They will literally starve their citizens just to win a trade battle with Trump

The overall point of this post is accurate.

The US is dealing with the Chinese Government only and they have some ability to force their will on their own people.

The Chinese however are dealing with the US Government and it's people. The American people have a low tolerance for frustration and discomfort, and the Chinese Government knows this.

China's hand in this is much stronger than this board wants to believe. They can force their people to gut out more than we're willing to gut out on our own.

Is that bad? I thought we were trying to move that back to the US?

We cannot "bring it home". Even if we fricked our economy and SOL to be at China's status to make it viable, we don't have the population.

There's truth in this. We'd have to open the border again.

Your assumption that China will stop using slave labor is flawed and belies a gross misunderstanding of China's economic policies.
so what are you arguing? That China should overpay for labor you want us to do? Or do you think they pay “slave wages” it for entertainment?

Seems SFP was right about the shift to emotion.

The stock market isn't the economy

What!? A rapidly crashing stock market is the prelude to a recession, or depression, or worse.

Investors have lost TRILLIONS of dollars since Trump assumed office. My 401K lost 5000. yesterday alone and is threatening to do so again today.

Trump... is an economic illiterate.

I've been trying to tell them for weeks that the average factory wage job in the US is $17 an hour.

What is it that they think is going to happen to the economy by adding 5 or 10 or 20 or 50 million $17/hour jobs?

They don't answer that question, though.

'Muh 'Merca. That's what you get when you ask that.

There's this ungrounded sentimental fantasy that we're going to somehow revive the concept of the "working class hero" with all this.

What a dumb post. Were you going to spend that 401k today? Of course not, its a long term retirement investment.

Only idiots panic when market goes down. Back in 08/09 there were lots of idiots then too. But the savvy saver looked at the opportunity it presented. Its like some gal going to the mall and everything is on sale.

Then a lot of those people will try to unionize at some point, which this board hates.

They would absolutely unionize and then the cycle continues. Those jobs would go off shore again.

How old are you and when do you start taking your withdrawals from the 401K?

I mean... if it's down 5 grand yesterday and another 5 grand today... and then in a year it gains that back... then... quite frankly, what's the issue?

This is why they get upset if you bring up how much these jobs should be paid in our current economy (hint: it's below minimum wage).

That's skilled labor. That's a trade. That's a far cry from the unskilled rubber dog shite producer, who pulls a lever all day. In the absence of a union, that schmuck isn't making 25 bones an hour.

Factory assembly line work is primarily unskilled, uneducated labor and has very little market value, which is why we offshore that kind of work.

Youre only as valuable as the cost of your replacement and foreigners will do that work for a lot less than Americans.

Its ridiculous to expect Americans to prop up overpaid labor to the detriment of the consumer.
