A United Airilines flight from Brussels was met by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials today at Newark Liberty International Airport after a passenger on board believed to be from Liberia exhibited possible signs of Ebola.
The passenger was traveling with his daughter on United Flight 998 and both were removed from the plane by CDC crew in full hazmat gear.
Other passengers remained on the plane while the two were being removed.
"Upon arrival at Newark Airport from Brussels, medical professionals instructed that customers and crew of United flight 988 remain on board until they could assist an ill customer," the statement said. "We are working with authorities and will accommodate our customers as quickly

Any reasonable concern about this will be portrayed as alarmism and/or hysteria.
If it's a false alarm they will mock you for reacting to the article. If it's the start of some as-yet-unseen major health issue, they will be back in three months to tell you all along they knew it was going to happen.
Imho, we better be careful as hell right now to consider ALL the possibilities and prepare accordingly, mockery of The Sophisticates be damned.

Why are we still having people from Liberia coming into the US? This really lays at the feet of our Gov't if this virus gets legs in the US...

Sounds like racial profiling to me.

The plane came from Brussels. Can we stop people from boarding planes in foreign countries?
I'm starting to believe that if there are any direct flights between West Africa and the US, we should consider suspending those. But if there is an intermediary country... what can we do?

Maybe we should just re-open Ellis Island for a short term quarantine / registration of anyone coming from Liberia? Don't know how they were let on the plane with symptoms though...

Flights were suspended to Israel a few months ago with the Hamas situation, so why shouldn't flights be suspended from West Africa?
As far as stopping people from boarding planes, all you would have to do is set up checkpoints at all international airports that have flights outbound to US Cities. At the checkpoints you could check passports, ask a few simple questions and deny boarding to those from that part of the world or who raise suspicion. Is it mean, sure, but when it comes to my safety and the safety of my loved ones and friends I really don't care if it hurts your feelings.

What do you do about US citizens? Not allow them to come home?
