Catholic hospital discriminated against trans patient by refusing hysterectomy, US district judge rules
A federal judge ruled Friday that a Catholic hospital in Maryland discriminated against a patient by refusing to perform gender transition surgery.
St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, Maryland, refused to proceed with a hysterectomy scheduled for patient Jesse Hammons.
Hammons, 33, is a biological woman who believes herself to be a man. Hammons was seeking the hysterectomy as part of a gender transition, but St. Joseph Medical Center refused to perform the operation due to guidelines set by the National Catholic Bioethics Center.
U.S. District Court Judge Deborah Chasanow ruled on Jan. 6 that the hospital's refusal to remove a healthy organ for the purposes of gender transitioning was "discriminatory."
"This court has determined that undisputed facts establish that, as a matter of law, Defendants discriminated against Plaintiff on the basis of his sex; UMMS is a proper defendant—all three Defendants are health programs or activities that receive federal funds," Chasanow wrote in the court opinion. "St. Joseph is not covered by the Religious Sisters of Mercy injunction; there are no material facts in dispute; and St. Joseph may not assert a defense based on [the Religious Freedom Restoration Act]."
The hospital's parent network offered to move the procedure to a different facility without Catholic ethical considerations, but Hammons declined.
In the letter, Washington said "appropriate steps have been taken regarding the employee," but further details on disciplinary actions, if any, were not released. Fox News Digital has reached out to Washington for more information on those steps and to see if the person remains employed at the school.
The letter stated that a mental health clinician and professional school counselors were available for any students seeking support.
"We sincerely regret this incident," Washington wrote.

Welp. There we have it.

This is a great win for myself and all transgender people denied equal treatment because of who they are," Hammons said in a statement via the American Civil Liberties Union. "All I wanted was for UMMS to treat my health care like anyone else’s, and I’m glad the court recognized how unfair it was to turn me away. I’m hopeful UMMS can change this harmful policy and help more transgender people access the care they need."
This fool denied the help to access the “care she needed” and now claims herself to be a champion for the cause.
This is a cosmetic surgery at best and an organ harvesting at worst. Not health care.

Yep. People love to bash Christians, and deservedly so at times, but there’s no doubt there are folks who seek out putting Christian organizations in conundrums when there are plenty of alternative options available.

Pretty much every "civil rights" case in the history of this country has involved intentional "defendant shopping," but this one seems particularly egregious for some reason ... and I am not even Catholic.
It is just picking a fight for the sake of picking a fight.

Very shitty people.
Of course, the legal profession is indoctrinated so you'll find sympathy from the courts for these jackals

Your non-interference is not enough - you must be compelled to participate and believe.

Why can't a hospital discriminate? People have gone to hospitals requesting amputations of a healthy limb based on 'I've always wanted to be a cripple' and the hospitals have refused.
Isn't that using discrimination?
Isn't that using discrimination?

Yup. Christ's church is under attack, in whatever form it takes.
The good news is this should be overturned on appeal.

Defendants discriminated against Plaintiff on the basis of her diagnosis.

Weirdos who want their limbs lopped off aren't holy and venerable. People whose souls were somehow born with the wrong set of genitalia are.

On this basis, it absolutely is.

Sounds like a "bake the fricking cake" put up job.

It's definitely egregious.
The hospital did not actually discriminate. According to Catholic bioethics, it's unacceptable to remove a healthy body part no matter the reason. They would apply the same rule to a "transabled" person who wanted to amputate a healthy leg, or to any woman who wanted to remove a healthy uterus.

Sometimes I think the whole acceptance and “gender affirming care” movement is a way to remove these people from the gene pool. As far as I know, HRT renders someone sterile for life.

these people are developed (by others preying [or affirming] their mental illness), not made through reproduction
