All the cops will say is it’s “suspicious.”

He was shot in the chest.

Do Bishops live in a rectory like priests? Do they live alone? I can’t imagine they live alone.

This is really “suspicious” to say the least.

Is it a pissed off at Francis Catholic?

Is it some kind of awful altar boy scenario?

Is it random out of control LA violent crime that had some illiterate criminal with no idea where he broke into?

Is it related to FBI monitoring of Catholics?

WTAF is happening?!?

We need the other Peacemaker over there it seems.

this is sad, may the bishop rest in peace.

I would imagine the bishop lives by himself unless the Archbishop of LA and the Auxiliary live in the same place.

It was probably the FBI. He may have been about to spill the beans on the money laundering that goes on in the Catholic Church.

Since you’re obviously devout (Catholic your username). What’s the difference btwn a regular bishop and an auxiliary bishop?

Plus. Is his house owned by Parish or Diocese? I would assume so - bc I’ve never known a priest who lived in a house he owned. But I really have no idea.

They did when I was growing up. Maybe things have changed.

On par with “foul play is suspected.”

Getting shot in the chest does in fact sound a little suspicious

Simplest of terms, read assistant instead of auxiliary.

I used to live across the street from a retired Catholic bishop. Regular house in a subdivision, you wouldn't know unless you met the guy. He mentioned it was owned by the Church.

Regardless who owns it, I missed my calling.

Must be nice to live in a 1.07 million dollar home, unless a million doesn’t buy you much in Los Angeles and you’re living your vow of poverty.

I used to have an ex priest as a neighbor. Not friendly at all. He’d stand in his yard and cuss real loudly. Never knew who he was pissed at but he was a strange bird.

Some priests come from money and buy their own houses.

Diocesan priests don’t take a vow of poverty.

The only bishop I ever met personally lived in a rectory on the grounds of the Archdiocese

Not sure if you got your answer so.

Bishop is the leader of the diocese. In larger, more populous diocese there can be auxiliary bishops. Usually a younger bishop who assists the bishop and fills in for certain things - for example conformations. The bishop or his auxiliary handle all confirmations typically.

The church owns all real estate. Priests/parishes/bishops usually don’t own anything.

Watched Cardinal Dolan this morning from his Sunday Mass at St. Patrick’s in NYC. He mentioned that Bishop David O’Connell worked with gangs in Los Angles to try and preach peace. Guess it didn’t work out. May have nothing to do with his efforts along those lines but it’s certainly a sad day.

A million dollar home is probably not much in the Democratic People's Republic of California. Those liberal sissys love to regulate everything, yet they've somehow fricked up housing and allowed the costs of living to run amok.
