Can we follow this science?

Conclusions
There was no reduction in per-population daily mortality, hospital bed, ICU bed, or ventilator occupancy of COVID-19-positive patients attributable to the implementation of a mask-wearing mandate.

contagious individuals are asymptomatic or subclinical during the initial incubation period, and published reports demonstrate 50% to 78% of people infected with COVID-19 were found to be asymptomatic

To date, limited published data evaluating the effects of public mask wear on COVID-19 incidence demonstrate a significant, beneficial effect. These studies, however, restricted their analysis to publicly reported COVID-19 infection rates without an evaluation of corresponding hospital resource utilization. Furthermore, the single study conducted in the United States excluded 35 states (among them Texas) because they did not have a statewide mandate for public mask wear during the study period.
But... but... muh mask science!
Here's some science on masks:
The normal surgical and cloth masks we see prevalent in society have holes only as small as 80 microns. The aerosol droplets COVID travels within, on the other hand, (think of seeing your breath on a cold day) get to a maximum size of ~62 microns. This is akin to thinking a chain link fence is going to keep out horseflies.
They may stop a few particles, but the protection is only marginal and certainly not the stalwart defense many portray it as (see: mask mandates).
N95 or better masks are far better but they need to adhere completely around your face or the aerosol droplets will escape through the gaps (and most are simply not going to take the time to check how securely they are fastened).

The good news is that IRL I'm having more people tell me 'Zach, I'm at the point that if the press or the govt says something I just assume it's a lie.'

I had a conversation with a young, black man trying to get his lawn service business off the ground. He's not only not vax'd (and refuses to get it until/unless it's been thoroughly tested) but he removed his mask the moment he saw I wasn't wearing one. His distrust of the media on this was high.
I'm thinking more and more the only places still hardcore following everything the media says as gospel are the liberal enclaves on the coasts.

You get a better batting average on "facts or bullshite" if they zig and you zag. Try it yourself.
If they say something is a lie, it's probably true.
If they something is true or factual, it is probably a lie.

This has been lies followed by more lies about every aspect of this disease and people wonder why here are folks who won't get the shot.
Once you lie once, lying become easy and you will lie about anything which is where the media, government and medical profession now finds themselves.

N95 can't be used for asbestos. Smallest asbestos particles are 7 microns. Largest virus particle are 3 microns.
