No 'entry-level vehicles', hardly. It's all near 100K SUVs and trucks.

I bought an entry-level American full size car in 2019 for less than 20k. TBH it's one of the best financial decisions I've made. I don't think you can do that anymore though

2026 Mitsubishi Mirage. Starting price: $16,695
2026 Nissan Versa. Starting price: $17,390

That's the only 2 options for new vehicles

You’re wrong on both counts. Mirage was discontinued in 2024 and they sold the last few remaining as 2025’s. Also the Versa got cut last year. Ain’t nothing starting under $20,000 anymore.

Update

Chinese vechicles make it to California via Mexico

quote:

Slotkin said Chinese automakers steal intellectual property and then reverse engineer it before deep subsidization by the Chinese Communist government.

She called some of the vehicles a “$11,000 to $14,000 Tesla” during a press conference Thursday.

She said European markets allowed Chinese vehicles to be sold there and warned that they have “gobbled up market share.”

FEVs. My next vehicle, which I will likely buy within the next year or so, will be an older diesel 4x4 truck with no power anything. No computer chips. I'm going to EMP proof it and convert it to flex fuel to run on diesel and vegetable oil / biofuel if needed.

They made such an exact clone of the Isuzu Rodeo that body panels and doors are interchangeable. The Chinese steal everything.

The self driving market seems to be an almost completely separate niche market

I think the ultimate play for Tesla will be to eventually sell this tech to other companies
+1

However, they haven't seemed to had much interest, from other companies. Maybe later they will be customers -- It takes a lot of computing power and/or gizmos, cameras or lidar. That tech is still very expensive on this side of the pond, without government subsidies.

I built a doomsday car for one of my bosses about 12 years ago. We put a 12V Cummins in an Excursion. He only ended up keeping it for a couple months.

There needs to be a safe, no frills 4 door sedan with decent mileage that lists for under 30k.

The will create a partnership with Chinese manufactures, add margin and drive sales through their dealership. It will double the price of the vehicles.

American car brands are lazy and have rested on their laurels for too long. Hyundai, Kia, Honda, and Toyota are leading the way.

Jeep is by far the worst. Such a garbage product from a once terrific brand. They all thought they could be “luxury” brands by slapping on a new label. Not fooling anyone

Amazing that Jeeps went from this to this.... They should've kept the old school rag top/door no frills Jeeps going... My Uncle had that CJ7, it was a blast to drive. 308 three speed, 4x4. You had to lock the hubs to put it in 4WD. He usually kept a bikini top on it.

Average price of vehicles is probably double of what is was just 15 years ago. Those fricks are making plenty of money.
