Capitalism treats humans as a means to an end (profit)
There is no other country in the world offering the upward mobility that the US does. Government does have the ability to ruin that though. Ours is trying VERY hard to do so.

Why does your implied alternative have to build walls to keep people in rather than keeping them out?
She assumes the poor have no dignity.

Hard to be dignified when you are hungry, live on a dirt floor, and have no job.
Capitalism has delivered more food security, constructed more floors, and created more jobs for people across the globe than any other system by far.
So I vote yes.

I would have them more competitive and able to compete on a global scale.
How, exactly?
For example, what government inaction could help you match the labor costs in the developing countries?

Completely free trade is best but when the other side is rigging the scales, what options are there to create a fair environment?
Typically that perceived rigging gives us a double benefit.
The problem is this is being spun as a negative by MAGA because certain sections of society now "have less dignity" so they want to institute regulations to support these people, just like cubbies.

This statement strikes me as nothing but a function of perception.

In an industrialized consumer driven society. Labor is essentially a commodity. That's just the way it is.
Yes. Would you say consumers are dignified?

Capitalism rewards greed. Undeniable.
Capitalism does NOT reward greed. It rewards actions that often are animated by greed. But greed without action does not get rewarded.
All accomplishment is the product of three things properly defined:
1. Talent
2. Motivation
3. Self-Discipline
If any of these are a zero there will be no accomplishment. Greed falls into the motivation category.

Name a system better. Name another system where I have the rights to keep my capital.
Should be simple, but first you have to know what "capital" means.

Does hunger and homelessness not exist in capitalist societies though?

You sound like a big MAGA type now. This is their exact rhetoric around MAGA-centric regulations like tariffs.
Everyone knew it was coming but I’m surprised page 2!

You dont need to, but you would need to add value.
Which is where we are failing. Our protections have caused companies to stop innovating, and we are being passed up.
I used Chinese EVs as an example, they are taking over the world, while our auto plants are flailing. Their EVs are have more tech, as good quality and are roughly 40% less expensive.
The more protections you throw at US industry, the further we will fall behind.
If you want better and cheaper cars, let the Chinese compete here. You'll find US innovation ramp up quickly.

No, you are not. You made a statement without backing it up or offering alternatives. That is not a discussion. It is a hook.

You’re describing bartering.
Do you not know what capitalism is? It starts with the word capital. You do know what capital is correct?

I don’t see the connection. We were discussing dignity in the context of the carceral system.

If you suppose that man is inherently greedy then…
In true capitalism the profit and profiteers are transparent. In the other economic forms that I am aware of the profit/profiteers are insidious.
Free market Capitalism while imperfect offers the most choice to the populace.

Are you dignified? I see you throwing buzz words around, but you do not seem to know what they mean.
You, just by existing, are a consumer. You consume just to live. You consume food, water, clothing, shelter and even oxygen.
Are you dignified?
