It's not a deflection; Ralph gave an honest and insightful answer. Democrats don't care if their policies are logical because they perceive that Republicans are just stupid. The stance is, even though we know we are hypocrites, at least we aren't idiots.

Well the 2nd amendment states that gun ownership is allowable in a well regulated militia. So you need to know who owns guns when you call out the militia and you need to know who owns arms in order to have a good estimate of the size of your militia. That makes sense. You cannot have a well regulated militia without knowing who owns guns and what type of guns. I mean a .22 short isn't as good in a militia as an AR-15 or AK-47. It's important for the state to know who owns what type of guns for when they are called into the militia.
Voting is a fundamental right upon which all other rights are based upon. That needs to be the least restrictive right for people to exercise. Plus for centuries people voted without photo ID in this country. Ronald Reagan was elected without voter IDs and I don't see how his rights as a candidate were violated because people did not have voter ID laws.

Check the records of the Continental Army and the records of colonial militias from the French and Indian War. When people joined the militia a record was kept of what or any weapons they brought with them.

Doctrines from the bible are not all contrary to logic but they were based on a time when people had limited information. For example there was a time when people didn't understand that you get sick from eating food contaminated with certain bacteria and shellfish and clams and oysters often had that bacteria. It's pretty clear in the bible that you are allowed to only eat fish with scales.
But billions of Christians eat clams, oysters and shrimp because we understand about bacteria and how proper handling of food makes it safer.
Sure the logic of not eating clams was true about 4 thousand years ago but now not so much.
