Democrats rejected Bill authored by Sen. Shannon Grove to make the buying of children for sex a prison felony, and hijacked her bill forcing hostile amendments by denying Grove’s efforts to protect 16 and 17-year-old children from being purchased as part of commercial sex trafficking.

Under the amended bill now solicitation of 16 and 17 year-olds will remain a misdemeanor, punishable by as little as 2 days in jail or up to a $10,000 fine.

Grove’s bill would make solicitation, attempting to engage or engaging in sex with a minor for money a felony with a prison sentence ranging from 2 to 4 years, a fine not exceeding $25,000, and registration as a sex offender. The bill would punish all those who solicit from a child, regardless of whether or not the person knew or reasonably should have known that the person solicited was a minor.

Funny how the side which has never met a law it didn’t want to pass draws the line here.

Democrat voters love their pedophiles. Many here are starting to openly admit it, which is a refreshing change.

Democrats LOVE passing laws, but draw the line here. LOLOLOL

The bill addressed soliciting sex from 16 and 17 year old minors in exchange for money. It does not "go after" the pimps. It "goes after" the johns.

If the bill had just elevated that extant crime from a high-level misdemeanor to a felony, it would probably have passed. The highlighted language (removal of the mens rea requirement) was probably what killed the bill. It is not unreasonable to ask whether a person should spend ten years on the Registry, when (s)he did not have any reason to believe that the prostitute was a 17 rather than 18.

“You bunch of conspiracy theorists. This isn’t happening. And when it does, it’s the government trying to make this the new War on Drugs. You’re all being played. I’ve been talking about this on this site for 27 years.

don't allow them to weasle word this....

purchasing a human being is called SLAVERY

and because minors cannot legally consent to sex, they're not prostitutes it's CHILD RAPE

Colorado did this same thing a month ago and it was shocking how brazenly the demon-crats fought againt it despite the testimonies of kids well under the age cited here. One in particular recalled being sold over 400 times in a single year to be raped. I make no apologies whatsoever, and it's not hyperbole, for saying that these people should be fed into a wood chipper feet first

Read the bill, not the OP's headline. The bill addresses solicitation for sex, not chattel slavery,
