PC does NOT apply if the NG units are under state control, which they were under Bush and Obama when used on the border, and they will be again with Trump. I finally read his order and he did not federalize the NG. He merely asked states to activate their guards. Now, this probably means CA will not cooperate.

Is that how Obama got to do that? I don't remember that.

When Obama requested national guard troops be sent to the border, Arnold Schwarzenegger was the governor of California. Beyond that, the request was specific in terms of the number of troops and the time commitment. Schwarzenegger complied willingly.

Of relevance is that, in 2014, Jerry Brown refused to send National Guard troops to the border when Texas and other border states did. He also happens to be the current governor.

Additionally, Trump, as he is wont to do, informed the nation of this "plan" via tweet before any specifics had even been decided upon. Trumpkins should probably hold off on their melting until the governor actually has a request to respond to.

Wait. Isn't this a posse communicant violation of the Constitution?

The Posse Comitatus isn't part of the Constitution, but a law passed, post-Reconstruction, in 1878. Besides, a foreign invasion is not a domestic issue, but rather an international one.

NG can only work in their state or neighboring states by the invitation of the Gov. Unlikely that Gov Brown will give the NY NG permission to bash baby Mexicans on the border in CA.

Bush sent 6,000 NG to the border and Obama sent 1,200. Anyone heard how many Trump plans to deploy?

Cal Nasty Guard's allegiance is primarily to the US and the Commander-in-Chief, the POTUS. California and Gov Brown are secondary.

If the states agree to mobilize their Guards, they can get totally reimbursed by the fed govt - which is a really good deal for the states. If they refuse any of this, they will lose control of their Guards and lose money. So I expect CA to refuse.

They can give their allegiance to whomever they want. They won’t go anywhere without orders and a paycheck.

Good lord. I realize it's a lot to ask on this board, but every once in a while, when a statement looks too dumb to be taken seriously, maybe it's not supposed to be taken seriously.

Take a look at the tiny little little dot at the end of my post, then note how many people below it caught the joke.

You're obligated to serve even if your pay is disrupted. I remember when the government shutdown in 2013 and threatened to shutdown in 2011, we were informed in case we stopped getting paid, we'd be expected to show for work. We ended up getting paid though anyway.

It’s not due to a opioid crisis it is due to border crossing issue.

This why the it has to be a congressional act. The governors of each state has the option to send National Guard.

Republican governors may opt to send the NG, democrat governors will probably hold out.

Bush almost did it during Katrina. He asked Blanco if she would allow him to federalize the guard and she said no. He could have done it anyway but chose not to.

That is true with active duty, thats probably not true about the guard and components bc their funding comes from the state not the feds. As for GS positions most are told not to come to work.

I think he meant, "it's the national guard, not the militia".
