Can someone define “American” culture in your words? I don’t necessarily believe that such a thing exists. Maybe “tribal” culture meaning east side of the train tracks does this, east side does that. North side this and so on. I’ve lived over seas and 6 states in the US. Each location overseas knew who “they” were. Same beliefs. Same holidays. Moving in the same direction.

V and E are correct, Americans generally speaking are lazy entitled slobs. What are the high school graduation rates? What is the obesity percentage of the country? What percentage of the country is on welfare? What is the divorce rate? Shall I continue?

They are also correct, in my experience, Indians/Asians who want to live here bust their arse. I work for one of the largest engineering firms globally. I’ve worked with many nationalities/races/religions. They come to improve their status, well being, families well being. Americans sit at a keyboard and cry…..

I recall in the late 90’, when Hispanics first started working at Exxon refinery as scaffold builders. At the time scaffold builders were 98% white. I’d take Hispanic all day everyday…

Correct.

When they put the avatar of a ghetto/poor black person on these comments, they're 100% correct.

When they put the avatar of a white/"middle class" person on these comments, they're the worst comments ever.

It's the same as discussing why the Rust Belt has so many people who can't keep up. Bad decision-making, not keeping up with societal and economic changes, etc. with white people in an area seen as halcyon Americana means those people were hurt by institutional forces. The same issues in an area seen as out-group (like inner-city ghettos and black people) means that out-group caused these issues, and any institutional analysis is lefitst bullshite from university ivory towers.

Again, folks here have said for years on this board how lazy Americans are with respect to welfare.

Vivek says it, and those same people lose their mind.

Politics make the irrational folks come out in droves.

Vivek speaks the truth. If you're too thinned skinned to get past that - then don't vote for him. We have enough people who tell the masses what they WANT to hear, I'd rather hear the truth - being it a hard truth or otherwise.

It's nice when posters hit the mark when choosing a forum name.

Segments of American culture could use a good critique. If people are this thin skinned I don't care about what they think

Because they see this as criticizing black people and minorities

8 years of MAGA dudes whining about DEI and participation trophies and a guy says our culture promotes mediocrity and now he’s the problem?

I don’t understand the outrage about what he said.

So America has no issues with fat and lazy people... No obesity problems, no problems at all with millions abusing welfare... is that your stance?

Some of us are MAGA because there is no other option. What many miss is, there are very few true conservatives anymore. Yes, Trump is conservative on the economic side of things {mostly} but socially, he has liberal tendencies.

Also, Trump thinks he can work with his enemies. This is flawed without direction.

Another great example of the same people spending darn near a decade telling us how terrible the culture is, only to lose their minds when Vivek said the same thing

Funny ppl in here talking about maga when they’re not maga

What is MAGA?

It has sort of morphed into a word, or acronym in this case, that is used so much and in so many ways that it no longer has meaning. Like racism - the word has no real meaning anymore.

He is right to call out American "culture" because American culture is not what it used to be. For starters, the emphasis on education has waned. It's more important for kids to excell in sports rather than education. Back in the last century sports were an extra curricular activity. No one ever pulled their kids out of school to go play in tournaments on weekends.
