They can however re skill to do factory work
If you're referencing lower-level factory work, that would signal a major economic/SOL devolution

I read you quote from whoever, since you can't form your own argument apparently, and his position ignores something very important.
As do you.
Let's see if you can figure it out counselor.
I'm only posting curated portions of the argument since we literally had this same discussion last night.

I don't play a guessing game where people can change their arguments without analysis. Make the point to be analyzed or move on.
You did earlier when you made me realize I should use better language (like last night) and include words like likely. That was a point made.

quote:Silly. Wealth isn't zero sum. You sound like Bernie and AOC.
That trillion dollars out of our coffers into those overseas is what is building their economies. Chinese lived in mud huts and ate dirt before we financed their growth, by buying their exports, to the point many now consider them a formidable enemy of the US.
Think of it this way. Let's say you're a (real) lawyer that bill out at $300/hr. Do you clean the bathrooms and sweep the floors at your office? Hell no! You can't afford to. Because if you spend 1hr per day, you be out $300. But you can hire someone to clean the office for $300/month. By your logic, you'd say "I"m not wasting $300 making that cleaning company a bunch of money, I'll do it myself".
Who cares if they become more wealthy. You'll be poorer if you overpay for good and services.

How is the cost of living going to be increased?
Maybe you should listen to the Lutnick all in podcast interview

I live for when you are at the top of the page because i feel so much more functional reading your idiocy.

Hard disagree. Yes, they would get stuck in the "middle income trap" - but it would be just a portion of our population and economy unlike China, Brazil etc, its a better alternative than what exists currently which is feast or famine for economic opportunity. Way to many people rely on the gig economy

Yeah, me too. I do like poking my head in to just state facts and then I'm done with him.
These people have zero capacity in logic. They look at pre FDR as poor when in fact we were the wealthiest nation and had been for a long time.
All with tariffs.

Likewise...
You going to argue, in a thread highlighting about Rolls-Royce bringing manufacturing back to America due to Trump's tariffs, that tariffs get us nothing in return?

quote:And if you talk to people that hire skilled labor, they won't tell you about excess of supply.
There is current a huge demand for skilled labor in the US.
I've asked many times where this latent supply of cheap skilled and enthuastic workers are. Never had an answer.

Your example is both too simplistic, and frankly ridiculous, to be taken seriously.
Thanks for letting me know how you think however.

Tell that to families working 3 or 4 jobs to survive.
Increaseing the cost of living will definately help them out.
Adding higher paying jobs that raises wages will help them out. You are correct.

That economic opportunity would only be available due to government-forced redistribution of resources, though. The reason those jobs don't work in our economy/SOL is they are worth hourly salaries below the min wage. In China, Brazil, etc., it's within their market. Taking money from more fruitful economic output and diverting it to inefficient allocation (subsidizing lower-level factory salaries) is -EV.

Way to many people rely on the gig economy
That pays more money than what lower-level factory work is worth

Compared to today, we were poor.

In a vacuum Sowell is right but we don't live in a vacuum we live in a world where many are predicting we may be in a war with our foe China in 2027.
Economics is not a science it is an art. You need to quit posting these tiresome inane arguments that don't hold water in real world situations.
