The best route to achieve the American dream is to pay off your first home ASAP and don't finance anything else, including vehicles. I paid off my first house in 16 years, and didn't finance my second.

I brought this up a few weeks ago when the 50 year mortgage nonsense was being floated. A person with minimal risk of defaulting would pay nearly $580,000 in interest on a $500,000 home loan over 30 years. How the frick has this become accepted as normal? It’s absolutely insane
