Probably the same reason Hillary and other officials did... to evade a FOIA search using the name Joe Biden as a key word.
Whole fricking Obama administration was using phony names on their emails for that reason.

Is that a smidgen? Using an alias email, particularly to avoid FOIA feels smidgeny.
