Isn’t the whole nature of social media that everyone is in one space?

That’s an interesting issue.

Look for fragmentation of social media as it is with other media such as tv, radio, and news sources.

Once you bust up the monopoly, I envision that you will see many social media companies each with their own space. Everyone will go where their speech can be expressed.

I think That ignores the unterlyingnideas behind social media

It’s mostly not about expression of speech. It’s mostly about keeping up with people/getting likes/posting pictures

However they never should have let Facebook buy Instagram if they were worried about monopolies

You may see some evolving of companies.

If your purpose is in fact to unify people so they can keep up with one another then you may have to strictly be a contact type company. No speech. The people communicate directly through company but not in open speech.

If you want open speech, then you will go to a company that provides the service you want. For some, that will be an echo chamber that censures speech they don’t agree with. For others, that will be an open discourse that does not censure speech.

Once the grip of google and Facebook are broken, there should be plenty of options for everyone to communicate freely.

I would hope the ones that do best would be the ones that allow open discourse. But I doubt that happens. Regardless, the dominant ones now don’t allow free speech and open discourse and control the market to such a degree that it hurts new companies from entering and building within the market.

LOL

You libtards go-to excuse and “Build your own platform” are a fricking joke.

Numerous examples of companies attempting to build their own platforms, only to be crushed by Google forcing companies that do business with them to not allow these newcomers to enter the market.

It’s blatantly illegal and monopolistic.

Depending on big govt to save you sounds a lot like small govt in action, apparently.

There is nothing really stopping that now besides people not wanting them.

The whole “grip of google” ignores that most people don’t give a frick if they censor Facebook. I hate Politics on Facebook.

The reason people want to be on FB vs their own website where they can say whatever they want is because of the audience.

I’m the biggest free market person you will find and I loath big gov.

But these huge tech companies are preventing the free market from working the way it should by forcing companies they do business with, to not do business with start-ups. The free market does not allow larger companies to essentially ban start-ups from doing business, which is what they’re doing now.

The only thing I can Find is the EU saying it prioritizes Google Shops over its competitions.

Which of course would be Amazon.

Want to end google or facebook?

Get people to quit.

Its really that easy.

The moment the tech companies lose all of their conservative base they will take a massive hit as thats easily 40% of their market data.

The move is the strongest by Attorney General William Barr towards Big Tech, which faces increased scrutiny from both political parties because of the expanded market power the companies have and the tremendous amount of consumer data they control.

Just checked in to say: 1) I’ve been saying this shite needs to happen for years and almost since I first discovered the PB, I’ve been posting this; 2) this just proves that Bill Barr is my sexy unsexy old boyfriend, and we are perfect and made for each other. I love A chubby guy with a fantastic vocabulary. My goodness what a bad arse Barr is.
