Ask yourself, “Why are birthrates declining?” It is because in the old days, of an agrarian economy, more children (especially male children) meant more prosperity for their parents. As that went away birthrates declined. There was a time lag, because the higher birthrates were a function of culture developed due to the economics. First the economics went away, then the culture eroded over several generations.
There is still a powerful reason to have children, and that is the experience of loving, and being loved by, a child. But for most people, that itch can be scratched by having one or two children. Today, the economic incentive is to have fewer children.
I think you are right that the economic impact of fewer children could be higher living standards for the rest of us, but that is only due to the possibility that technology will replace humans with robots and AI. It was certainly true up to now that we needed an expanding work force to grow economically. Improvements in productivity were not happening fast enough to drive up prosperity the way we wanted it to go up. Now, with AI, we might be there. I believe we are close.

It's been proven, mathematically, that the world population won't ever grow over 9 billion people, due to the natural attrition rates/ratio of deaths vs births.
We aren't far from that number now, and the world is less impoverished and less hungry than it's ever been. This is mostly due to the ingenuity of clever peeps & hard-working/motivated folks that were allowed to be born under no governmental birth-rate restrictions, while amidst a record amount of uneducated savages/governmental parasites and an over-population dystopian-future fear-mongering campaign by the likes of Bill Gates & other depopulationists.
Overpopulation concerns are really a nothing burger.

And I don’t mean eugenics
we are in the process of proving that

None of this will matter in developed countries because of:
AI
Automation
Robotics
It’s coming and sooner than you think. Here in United States we are going to have tens of millions of low IQ ‘Immigrants’ with no job, no way to feed or house themselves etc. it’s going to create a huge problem as the menial jobs they came for are phased out. Same goes for European countries also.

The top of the pyramid only wants enough slaves to build other pyramids.

Our economy is set up for constant growth. Weve literally mortgaged our financial future on it. When there are less people, there are less consumers. Its one reason why western countries want to bring in the hoards of third world.
In a normal cycle, low birth rates would lead to conditions that would eventually lead back to high birth rates...but that might be a 100 year cycle. The boomers who need their social security checks and stock dividends cant do with any population decrease.
