I served on a Council Executive Board. BSA has always been tight financially. It used to only cost $15 a year to be a scout. Much less than rec ball teams charge. They started to lose a lot of their funding from United Way groups who forced them to change. There was also some internal pressure as there were Scouts who wanted them to change also. They were in a no win situation and were going to lose support no matter which decision they made.
And for all those complaining, this is not a gay issue. It was not gay men who were abusing those kids.

I signed up for the scouts at Valley View elementary school. I didn’t think anything of the meeting/recruitment being at a school. There was nothing overtly religious about the evening. Why would Obama care enough about this to attack it?
I guess I don’t understand what Obama would have against the organization. It seems like something he’d be for.

I was a Boy Scout in the 70's and it was a very wholesome thing that taught skills, teamwork and leadership and of course like everything else decent the progressive left wouldn't rest until they destroyed it.

Despite what everyone else is saying, the trigger for this is not letting gays or girls in. Those things just weren't the rescue that the advocates for those actions promised.
The trigger is the passing of laws that eliminated or extended the statute of limitations on abuse claims from the past. This caused a flood of claims all at once when they otherwise would have been spread out over time.
Most large non-profit organizations are cash poor and property rich, so they have limited flexibility to respond to these lawsuits.
Now, it is true that the hoped-for increase of revenue from allowing gay boys in, and then expanding to create a division for girls, has not come to fruition. This happened because the changes were seen by old-school Scouters as betrayals, a reasonable position.
In essence, BSA got caught between a rock and a hard place, and became a carcass for the vultures to pick over.
Hopefully, there is a route back to viability through the local councils, who are not part of the national bankruptcy. The new Youth Protection training is really the best out there, and gives local Troop leaders a lot of tools to protect their Scouts from the predators.
It will, however, be a painful process, if it can be successful at all.

In this thread it was stated that most cases were older men abusing teen aged boys. That is gay behavior. It’s how they propagate.

Circle back to that idea that the newer mutations allowing for this or that have run off a lot of scouters. They wont be coming back.

That eliminates the potential false claims, it does very little to stop an assault. That's akin to thinking a restraining order will keep a person safe.

There is something that a lot of people talking about this need to understand. I am sure there are some in here who do.
Bou Scouts filing ch 11 has nothing to do with local councils(if they are run correctly). For instance, our council(Evangeline) is completely safe. No real estate, or finances are tied into the national offices. We are basically self run, self financed. So whatever is going on with the national office, has zero impact on us.

They're two separate issues.
The abuse/lawsuit issues are not directly related to the issue of progtards/SJWs entering the organization, which has happened due to changes outlined by others.
BUT - There is an overlap of these issues: The sanctification of homosexual behavior by progtards/SJWs. The sexual abuse was homosexual behavior involving male Scout leaders and male Scouts. It almost seems as though the entrance of progtards/SJWs into BSA is supposed to be some kind of cathartic act, or penance for, these sexual behaviors; but, how can that be, when those people want to celebrate and normalize the very behaviors at the core of all these lawsuits?
The chicken hawk has entered the hatchery exclaiming, "I'll take better care of you than that rooster!".
