The ones in the middle of Bourbon further down would have prevented him from gaining speed. Plus the sidewalks are full of balcony supports and fire hydrants.

I don’t understand why so many people are making excuses for this incompetence.

Wasn’t convenience as they were being checked out for the upcoming Super Bowl. That they didn’t consider a desperate attempt by someone else for Sugar Bowl is beyond malfeasance of their positions. There is enough crime around there on a regular night not to have complete blockades other than standard barricades

Jesus Christ.
Just use a shipping container or something.
Not hard to harden that target a bit.

Pipe bombs with C-4 and us leaving Afghanistan with thousands of pounds of C-4 and Symtex left unsecured.

I fear this won’t be the last time ISIS related frick faces utilize high explosives in attempt to do harm to the US.

Narrative? Do lefties not have a narrative with the coining of the term "hate crime" yet refuse to use it in a situation such as what just happened?

Sir, just because the Left, and the Media, and the Government, and the Right, and everyone else has a narrative, doesn't mean that adults on a message board can't have civil, intelligent conversations without having to make everything a Left vs Right narrative.

Or maybe it does mean that.

Yeah they don't even really need them further down Bourbon because of the balcony supports. Honestly, all they needed was a single bollard on the sidewalk right there and it would have stopped him from ever getting onto Bourbon with the police blocking the road.

I'm guessing the police didn't want to impede pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk and were only focused on vehicles using the roadway, but had they backed up even a little more toward the sidewalk this could have been prevented.

The guy would have committed this carnage regardless of what the city had done.

There's one person to blame, the guy who drove the truck. NO is a shite show, but 100% of the blame here goes to the driver who would have found a road with people regardless of setup.

Why bother locking the door to your house or car then?

Just accept whatever comes in, since someone really determined will find a way.

Defense in depth is a thing for a reason.

So they admit the bollards were to prevent terrorism after the France attack.

This needs to be posted on the OT for all the excuse makers.

Pretending those missing barriers would’ve solved all this and the radical psychopath would’ve just said:

Yes or no: would it have been beneficial for the current barriers in place to be operational? would sidewalk barriers have helped deter the attack?

I'm not "pretending" anything. He would have had a much more difficult time accessing the most populated party street in New Orleans with the proper barriers being in place and functional.

I wonder if the absence and the public information about them sparked the idea for the attack.

Crews are scheduled to work tomorrow, Dec. 31, until 2 p.m. and will minimize road closures as much as possible to reduce impacts during the New Year’s Eve and Sugar Bowl celebrations. Work will resume on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025, with limited access on Bourbon Street near Toulouse Street. The intersection at Toulouse Street will also remain open. Signage and traffic control measures such as flaggers, barrels, and fencing will be onsite to direct drivers and pedestrians.

Stop with this nonsense.

People expect Bourbon to be cutoff from traffic. You walk at your own risk the rest of the city.
