The commission had fielded escalating complaints about the Emancipation Memorial, also known as the Emancipation Group and the Freedman’s Memorial, as a nation confronting racial injustice rethinks old imagery.

The statue has stood in a park just off Boston Common since 1879. It’s a copy of an identical monument that was erected in Washington, D.C., three years earlier. The copy was installed in Boston because the city was home to the statue’s white creator, Thomas Ball.

Although the monument was created to celebrate the freeing of slaves in America, its design disturbed many who objected to the optics of a Black man kneeling before Lincoln.

“What I heard today is that it hurts to look at this piece, and in the Boston landscape, we should not have works that bring shame to any groups of people,” said Ekua Holmes, vice-chairperson of the arts commission.

“After engaging in a public process, it’s clear that residents and visitors to Boston have been uncomfortable with this statue,” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said in a statement.

so basically people are uncomfortable with the freeing of slaves. At the rate we're going, dems will have them back in chains before you know it. Hell they already have some blacks advocating for segregation. It's the greatest mindfrick I've ever witnessed

Abraham Lincoln.....wow.

So, I'm supposed to believe that the death of George Floyd has logically led us to this? I think we all know better than that.

This isn’t about anything other than Whiteness. Denigrating it. Neutering it. And using it as an excuse to boldly remake the country in a fashion that just coincidentally resembles Marxist anywhereville.

Whiteness is the enemy. All whiteness. It doesn’t matter if a white person appears to have done something good. They’re racist.

I'd erect a new statue of Lincoln with a black designer in the same exact place.

anyone thinking these idiots would stop at confederate statues needs their head examined.. The original statue was bought and paid for by former slaves, and as you can see, not even that is safe. This is their first time dipping their toes in the waters of monuments dedicated to blacks. it won't be long now until they go after MLK. His views on homosexuality alone have him marked for cancellation

No. That doesn’t matter. MLK was black. He can’t be an oppressor.

There's been some debate over this, even among his own family. Most common assumption is that he was a moderate.

If you are 99% WITH THEIR CAUSE, they will STILL cancel you over that 1%.

There is no winning a fight by supporting them. They are Marxist, authoritarian communists and must be eradicated with force. That goes for the funded DA's, judges, and mayors that allow this shite to happen as well.

He may indeed have been a moderate, but he was a Republican. There is no way in hell he was a Democrat given what that it was Democrats who were fighting to keep Jim Crow going.

Anyone who still thinks this is about George Floyd needs to get their head out of the sand.
