I know there has been a lot of topics on Bloomberg and farmers. It appears the context of his quote was removed. He was talking about farming in a pre Industrial Revolution sense. He then talked about jobs after that and before the Technological Revolution and then post the TR. In short, he’s saying ag jobs way back then were process jobs you could be quickly taught. He was not referring to the modern farmer.

Oh that’s better. I’ll vote for him now.

But when trump says something context actually fades away and nuance runs like hell.

I never even heard about this until I cruised the poli board. Funny how if you don’t watch TV, meaningless things like this don’t affect you at all.

He's still a smug a-hole.

This make his comment worse IMO.

In its day the 18th century plantation was a sophisticated operation. Guys like Washington and Jefferson had to keep up with the latest science and technology, they had to understand commodity markets, supply chain and logistics, trading regulations and laws and they had to keep the morale of their people up.

The part that didn't require a high understanding of these things was the role of the most basic field hand.

So what he is saying is that the most basic field worker in those days could be uneducated and low skilled.

And who were those people?

Black slaves.

So, congrats Mr. Bloomberg, you just found a new way to insult black people.

o yeah farming was much easier way back when. farmers then and now had/have more know-how and integrity in their little fingers than blumberg will ever dream of

blumberg would not survive 2 days in the out of doors, if he had to fend for himself

It’s not right when it happens to Trump either. It doesn’t mean you have to vote for Bloomberg but let’s be aware of what he really said. I’d rather judge all candidates on the fullness of what they say and not out of context statements.

I read the link. He never said anything about modern farmers being more than just people who dig a hole, throw a seed in, and put some water on it.

He said the new economy requires more gray matter (it absolutely does) but he still implies factory and farming jobs are low gray matter jobs. Still insulting to existing farmers and factory workers, regardless of its true or not. And democrats, including Bloomberg, have told me for the past 12+ years it doesn’t matter if it’s true, it only matter how I feel

Funny how the media chooses to ignore negative things about one candidate but digs and digs and digs on another

I’m not aware of any statement he has made either way about that. If he does, then he’s wrong.

Most jobs can be quickly taught for entry level. There are very few industries that only exist professionals. The issue is when he starts talking about people needing greater brain power today than in years past for the newer job fields. That’s just not a fact. Any beginning job today has some form of checklist, work aid or basic training to ensure you don’t screw up. You can be working in a plant, an Apple store or at the chicken farm. The brain power required to run any of those is greater than the entry level. Bloomberg is the typical New York / media / western elitist that disregards the activity of those he knows nothing about.

That's rich. Since when has CONTEXT ever mattered to liberals before?

It kind of sucks when you get held to your own absurd standard, right?

context is not required. for him to denigrate, minimize and belittle farmers of any time period reveals his own stupidity

he's done his goose is cooked. he has alienated every single rural vote in the U S. nice!

Replacing people with technology isn't unique to the information economy. It's a nonsensical point, ahistorical and ignorant.

I don’t care about his incorrect opinion of farmers whether that be about past or present farmers.

Mike Bloomberg knows jack shite about farmers.

I spent three summers doing manual labor on a corn research farm. I’ve been through three master’s programs. Most of the people that did what I did went on to college.

When you hear a prog elitist say shite like that when you know he’s wrong it’s a turn off.

But that’s how progs view is so I’m glad mini Mike’s view of us is getting airtime.

Just wonder if he hates black people or trump voters more. What about black trump voters. Yikes.

What does he think the Agricultural Revolution was? The technological improvements and the enclosure acts are the exact things that drove people from rural farmlands to cities before the IR, which allowed the IR to happen.

My parents farm and I’m pro-farmer all the way. At the same time, the intelligence level to farm 300 years ago is not what it is for farming today or technology today. That’s just a simple fact. He was comparing the technology sector of today to farming 300 years ago. The difference in critical thinking skills between the two is extreme as is the critical thinking and analysis needed between farming today vs back then.
