the light went off when they asked him to identify. Do you know what a Terry stop is?

they had the right to ask. And he had the right to refuse. They had no reasonable articulable suspicion that a crime was being committed unless watering flowers is a crime

someone suspicious is outside a neighbor’s house?
suspicious isn't a crime. They had no right to ID him. Arresting him after everything is beyond ridiculous. They should both be fired

If he doesn’t have a warrant on him, why should he have to identify himself?

When I go out of town, my neighbors water my shrubs without me even asking or giving permission. One day I went to work and forgot to close my garage door, a neighbor came into the garage to hit the button and then sprinted out and hopped the laser just so my garage would be secure. 100% true.

The cops in this story were right to respond to the call. Everything that happened after that was bullshite, even if the guy was being a little shitty to them. I think an old black man that has actually lived through some institutional racism gets a little bit of leeway in being a dick to uppity cops.

am not familiar with this town, but in my hometown about one older Black man in three claims to be a pastor of some sort. I would not expect every cop to be familiar with all of them.
I'm actually amazed that you come down on the side of gross incompetence by law enforcement. Are you ever right about anything?

So what is their report on the 911 response??

"Well he said he was doing nothing wrong and while we were there, he didn't commit any crime, so we went home.

Is that all that is required?? when someone makes a 911 call?? == I'd think something should be required to close it out. Someone like a - well, you know - an investigation of some sort.

OR do you just stake out the place until it's all "over"?? what makes it 'all over' ??

his status related to a warrant is irrelevant. He has a 4th amendment right not to give up his personal information unless there's reasonable suspicion he committed a crime. He was watering his neighbors flowers and they took him to jail. frick them

Well now - it is MY presumption that these cops have lived thru 100x more 'street disrespect' and "anti-cop discrimination" than this good 'pastor' has ever had inflicted on him.

All the jerk had to do was show them who he was - all would have shaken hands and gone on about their business. but NO - he had to act like a huge a-hole and provoke it all.

if everyone would stop protesting government injustice and just go about their business there would be no problems. He had a constitutional right not to id. It would certainly have been easier to id but rights that aren't exercised go away

Relevance? This guy was arrested for a charge in which he doesn’t meet the elements.

This is the kind of bullshite cheap shot narrative that really pisses me off.

YES - they cops COULD have been 'nicer' -

But - in my mind they had an OBLIGATION to vet the actor who caused the 911 call to be made.

If you are going to be MAD at someone here, the FIRST one should be the 911 caller.
then you blame the good pastor who could have resolved the problem caused by the 911 call with a simple gesture of resolution.
Then you blame the shitass pastor after he gets all UPPITY with the cops trying to do their jobs after being called out on a 911 call.
Then you blame the fricking shithead pastor for getting ABUSIVE to the cops trying they best to do their job.

THEN you can blame the cops for not being all-seeing - infallible - inscrutable - perfect in every way - predictors of the future.

There is a lot of stupid bullshite goin on in this thread.

Are you forgetting about the 911 call???

what is the proper resolution of a 911 call that YOU might make??

You OK with a responding cop believing what the 'suspect' says? and then leaving with NOT ONE OTHER QUESTION ASKED???

Tell me what you want the cop to do next, right after the good pastor snubs their polite request for identification.

I need SOMEONE who continues to bring this same shite up - TELL US WHAT THE RIGHT RESPONSE IS for a 911 call????

I may be completely off base here - but I would HOPE the responding cop would not just ask one question and leave if I were to report what I thought was a suspicious person in my neighborhood.

I've never been a black man and I know they don't trust police but he could have defused that thing by simply showing his ID and calling the neighbor for whom he was caring for his flower bed.

well fkuc yo

I hope that when someone calls 911 to report your house being broken into, that they just ask the perp outside your window for a name and then leave without checking it out.

I just hope your daughter is not effected by what happens when the cops drive off.

If watching cops happily violate everyone's rights during covid in the name of "just doing my job" didn't wake them up then there's no hope at all

One of my cousins good friends is a cop. My cousin was complaining to him about this shite a couple weeks ago and the cop buddy said “frick the constitution.” My cousin said frick you and hasn’t talked to him since.
