You’re the one deflecting from Elon’s quote which is in the OP.

He talks about fossil fuels and coal being used. You then move the goalposts when its pointed out that a huge portion is renewable energy (hydro).

Im sorry the dams weren’t built in a way that is to your liking. Wind farms kill birds too, so i guess those count as fossil fuels and coal too? Better go buy some land, you’re about to run out of room for goalpost moving.

There is only one reason for this and it’s to boost another coin or that is. Which one is it?

California is connected to a lot of hydro, but last summer they ran short.

If those (insert any industry that uses electricity) had not been there, Californians might have had power for their homes.

Why are you picking on Bitcoin? Why not the porn industry? Or Gambling? Or the wine industry? Or movies?

Is one group more entitled to electricity than others? Did the miners pay for their electricity?

No, because I didn't even respond to that comment. Again, I was calling out the OP for the ridiculous statement at the end.

quote:

Wind farms kill birds too

Domestic cats kill far more birds than wind farms.

How am I moving the goalpost? Someone mentions the merits of "green" hydro-electric dams. Yet, in reality those dams wore constructed in a very destructive fashion.

Green energy is not always as environmentally friendly as it appears. Just like strip mining for minerals needed to make EV batteries.

And that energy cost is part of its value. If it was free to mine, then everyone would do it, and it would have no value.

Got a buddy in Kansas who mines it. Spends a ton on electric bills, and the initial investment for all the equipment he needed.

Now he is knocking down 6 figures and just stays home and hangs out with the family.

I sometimes wish I had the smarts to do that stuff.

I mine. My electricity added costs are 0.05% of the value I mined month to month.

Why is it even referred to as mining any more? You're leasing out equipment to operate a network node. With other crypto technologies you are contributing to the hosting of a decentralized server.

I'm sure they did. And it's legal, along with porn, etc., so I'm down with them doing their thing.

Personally, I question the value of crypto, but that's me.

Ya'll want it, ya'll have at it.

It's evolved to be more about the broad application of blockchain technology and building the next generation of the internet.

XRP is not decentralized. Big red flag IMO.

If I wanted something that wasn't decentralized, I'll just keep using the legacy system we have today. The XRP coin isn't even needed to utilize their network. Way too many red flags with that project.

Tesla is continuing to hold Bitcoin, if they truly believed the statement put out they would sell it all. They backed themselves into a corner when they announced accepting it for payment without converting it to fiat. This gets them out of that with the convenient energy consumption argument that has become a popular talking point.
