You don't. You can read Cassidy's own words. His "denial" really isn't a denial. And, even in the midst of this "misinformation" he chose not to be very explicit about his stance. He's playing politics.
If he was against witnesses, he should have said "The report from Chris Wallace was completely false. In fact, I DO NOT support witnesses being called because this entire process is clearly the product of a political effort to take down the president. Impeachment can never be used for political purposes. There is no chance that I support allowing this to go any further than it has to."
He didn't say that. He hasn't said that. He has simply said that he didn't say he was "for witnesses". He's playing a word game.
You do what you want. I won't vote for him because of this.

Cassidy must not have any interest in being the Senator from Louisiana.

He’s going to vote with McConnell. He wants to be re-elected again.
This is all for show.
McConnell is going to have the escape clause of calling Hunter. The Dems will refuse, and that will be the out Murkowski, Manchin and Jones want. Murkowski just wants to pretend she’s some sort of maverick. Mitch will buy her off, with a bridge, or a new school for Eskimos. Manchin and Jones get to try and protect themselves.
It will work for Manchin, but not Jones.

If you give an inch, they'll take a mile. Allow one witness and it'll blow the frick up. They'll scream that Bolton's testimony necessitates that we call more witnesses. They already want Mick Mulvaney, if you give them Bolton, it only empowers them to pray on that GOP's lack of a backbone. It'll drag on and on and on while it's all sorted out.
Would be awesome if they voted for witnesses, but then just called Biden, Biden jr, schiff etc.
And no democrat witnesses. Give democrats a taste of what republicans had to eat in the house.

Sounds vaguely familiar. Where have I heard something like this before?

There was never a chance Cassidy bucked Pres. Trump or McConnell.
As far as I'm concerned...actions will always speak louder than words. If Cassidy votes the wrong way on impeachment...then there's a real problem.
It's your right to not vote for a consistently conservative US Senator because you don't like the way he phrased an answer over a non-story.
If you find a more conservative, viable Senate candidate than Cassidy, please--by all means--help them raise money and win. But if you don't...Cassidy will continue to be a solid option. Just may need some help in the communication department.

He'll get no credit for voting correctly just because McConnell was able to force his hand.
It wasn't poor phrasing of an answer, or a miscommunication. He was unwilling to let his opinion known on quite literally the most important subject he'll ever be a part of. He was unwilling to do it even though his position was, according to him, mischaracterized. Instead, his official pushback was that he hasn't yet announced that he was for additional witnesses.
Now, he's facing the reality that witnesses are not going to happen. He gets no credit for voting that way under that understanding.
We need leaders. We needed him to stand up and say what he thought of the debacle of these impeachment hearings...and WHY allowing it to continue was counterproductive. We don't need conservative voters when it's politically expedient to be a conservative voter.
This is why the republican party gets drummed so often. There aren't enough republicans who truly share the values of republican voters. Because of that, there is nothing pushing them to fight back when they are getting abused politically.
I voted for Cassidy. I WILL NOT vote for him again. He's shown himself to be a weak individual.

It’s people like you who let democrats like JBE win in Louisiana

I don't think that's an accurate description of me, but ok.
This issue is a dealbreaker for me. If you aren't willing to stand up for a duly elected president from your party...when facing an OBVIOUSLY BIASED AND POLITICAL IMPEACHMENT...where no crime is even charged, and no real evidence was presented, then you are worthless.
I'd suggest that it's people like you who are willing to accept politicians that have given us the GOP we've had over the last couple of decades. People like you are literally why we are in the mess we are in.
