re: Bill Cassidy confirms he's interested in running for Louisiana governor next year

Who is the big group that you envision is going to be Cassidy's "camp" in this scenario?
I do think Cassidy is an interesting candidate here. Here’s the main reason why: While his chances of actually getting into the runoff are very low, if he were somehow able to make it, his chances of winning the whole thing are pretty darn good, granted based off the other runoff candidate.
Cassidy vs Landry: Democrat base ain’t crossing over to vote for Landry; and there’s going to be that anti-Vitter camp faction of the GOP who would rather a GOP Governor Cassidy.
Cassidy vs a Sharon Broome/Cedric Richmond Democrat: Going to be very tough for Republican voters to stay home with these Dem alternatives on the table, and even tougher to vote for the Dem to spite Cassidy.
Cassidy could lose in a runoff vs a Gary Smith or Butch Gautreaux type Democrat, though.
However, all that said, I don’t see how he has the necessary base to make the runoff. His ability to win (and probably easily) in those two above runoff scenarios has him winning because one side or the other views the other option as horribly extreme.

I just can’t figure out who these people are. Certainly not in any sizable numbers.

I think this board would call them the RINOs of the party. I'd call them more center leaning Republicans.

You think Louisiana has a huge number of these?
It doesn’t, not within the national understanding of it.

Well everybody voted for him in 2020
Well I didn’t. I know other conservative libertarian types that didn’t either.
Just saying, stop voting just because they have an R. We have to stop this.

“They’ve seen what I’ve done on the bipartisan infrastructure bill, see what I did on COVID relief in December” 2020, Cassidy told Politico on Tuesday. “They obviously see I’m trying to do good things for the state. And they like it.”
Does this man live in a bubble? Has he seen recent polling data that show he's not very well liked in the state? Has he seen polling data showing unfavorable opinions of him are greater than favorable? Does he really think Richard Lipsey can buy him the Governor's Mansion?

Y’all are kidding yourselves. If he actually runs he knows he has the support to win.

He should not waste his time or money. Period.

States like Texas and Florida, Republicans can nationalize local and state elections to their advantage.
In Louisiana, they can’t. 2003, 2015 and 2019 Gubernatorial races are proof of that, as are many local elections.

Just like he knew it would be a good idea to piss off his voter base.

I'm interested in Bill Cassidy choking on a dick

If my only choice is Cassidy and some liberal Democrat, I will simply not vote. I’ll never vote for this man.

Is he openly going back to the Democratic Party, where he rightfully belongs? He might be able to win after Billy and Landry bloody each other up in the primary. Running as an R? Zero chance. I’d vote for the fat slimeball before Cucksidy
