I'm going to blame Biden for this, however, this is an absolutely pure example of the last 30 years of politics.
Say whatever you need to do to get elected to a position, then pivot. There's too much information to be held accountable, and too few voters who care, and a completely complicit media with leftist politics.
This is a systemic problem, not a Biden problem. We just happened to fall for it for the highest office in the land, and we lack an honest media to question, probe, and get to the bottom of things. That's what would help keep this in check.
