What am I reading wrong here? I loathe that old fricker but wouldn’t it be pretty normal procedure for his state department to contact their Chinese counterparts and discuss relations between the two countries if something like the balloon occurred?

It's inexplicable why any competent regime would allow a CCP surveillance platform to drift over several sensitive US military installations and then wait to bring that surveillance platform down after its mission is complete. Not one person resigned over the Afghanistan Withdrawal Debacle and not one person in the federal government was shite canned for alowing a CCP surveillance platform to traverse across the US spying on US military installations.
