Bessent is reportedly considering using the Treasury’s nearly $1 trillion cash balance to expand bond buybacks and pressure long-term yields lower. Pretty clear that keeping borrowing costs contained is a major Trump administration priority as the U.S. refinances an enormous debt load

Reminder: Bessent basically said last week that he’s willing to torch your 401K if that’s what it takes to get long-term yields under control. With the midterms approaching, you have to imagine Trump is in his ear telling him to exhaust every other lever first.

How many more tools do we have to keep that can-kicking going?

How’s it’s not failed at 40 trillion in debt?

I only need 20 years, good luck to you younger folks. I don't want any of this but I cannot do anything to stop it,

I don't understand this stuff, but if you want some good doom porn, watch the econ guys on Mario Nawfal's channel like Phil Pilkington and Jeff Currie.

In the last week, Bessent has intervened in yen markets (worked only for a few days), intervened previously in bond markets (worked for a day), is likely intervening in energy markets, and now doing whatever crazy thing stout just posted. I think those are bad signs.

Imagine this administration torching people’s 401ks while the real estate market corrects at the same time, all amid an unnecessary war that could easily be viewed as the final catalyst for a massive recession. Despite the groundwork laid by previous administrations, Trump 2.0 would ultimately shoulder the blame.

Would make Bush’s second term look productive in hindsight.

So we don’t know if this is real, just speculation, but if it is real people are now mad they’re trying something to lower the debt? Unreal, arm chair qb’s will never be happy.
