Wanna see the future without St. George? Hello Detroit. The moment the petrol-chemical plants are gone (like the automakers)......and they will leave one day....and sooner than you think....it is over for BTR.

We really do need to diversify our industries here in BR, but that will never happen when you have the repeat election of every dumbass that people like "Machine" keep pulling the lever for.

I can’t help it if nobody voted for Daryl and I was forced to pick between two shithead candidates. The city needs to do better in the primaries

Must be a very, very, very small room.

I'd even say a closet and perhaps it should come out of that closet....

Wait, it did....

You idiotically assume people at the top want to improve it....

By creating a problem and perpetuating that problem, they keep idiots like you voting a certain way.

Some people are smart enough to stop beating their heads against the wall and say "fk you" and walk away....

Do you realize that you quoted the fact that it's been "worked on" for decades. Baton Rougeans have fought with the school board and city council since the 70s trying to get this right--or at least make it better. StG incorporation wasn't even a concept 10 years ago. This came about after DECADES of failures. At some point there's the realization that it's not changing unless there's a shakeup in organizational structure.

Ffs, they have been working on their own school district for well over a decade. If you believe that is working to solve East Baton Rouge Parish’s problem, you are a fool

St. George isn't a part of the city. It isn't breaking away. You are confused.

Here words from an email from a state senator on this issue.

Seems like EBRP cannot make it without St George.

“a major issue that was troubling to the committee was the bond debt obligations that the parish must honor. With a split of St. George this would create a ripple effect in the parish.”

Ask the guy on the committee what bond package(s) is he talking about because as best I can tell the only tax changes will be the 2% sales tax we pay to the general fund and there are no bonds attached to that.

I did speak to him about that and said they are blowing smoke up his rear end.

Or

Is the metro council not telling us what financial shape this parish is in and are they robbing Peter to pay Paul?

A "ripple" ...in an ocean. The highest number I've seen tossed around for the amount of money St. George will keep from the City-Parish budget is $53M (some would argue it's more like $46M). Does everyone realize that the 2019 City-Parish Government is currently $926,223,502. St. George will literally keep no more than 5.72% of the City-Parish budget. It's a blip, close to being a rounding error.

And the C-P will no longer provide us with approx 28 million in services.

I’ll take that deal.

So they tell us, but somehow I think we'll come out ahead.

the real problem are children like you who want to take their toys and leave vs trying to clean house with the current metro-council.

I think you missed the part where people are tired of the old system.

Evolve or die. The old system has been dying since the 70s. More money is spent per student yet results go down. The number of administrators and waste is too high.

Why did Central leave? That community was promised a replacement for Central Middle School. The facilities was built in the 30s, served as former high school, was a borderline dump when I attended in the late 70s. In the final 10-15 years of the old Central Middle, there were parts of the facility closed to students, no central area, small library and so on.

The EBRSB promised Central a new middle school over and over and over. Allocated a tax and yet never spent the money on that project yet built many schools within the parish.

It is simple. You can't keep breaking promises over and over. People of Central got tired and left. EBRSB lost much of its credibility with the remaining parish members.

Yet, the same mantra is repeated over and over. Trust us this time. Trust us this time. Trust us.

The system is broken. Time to kill it and start over. Or at least let the people who want to leave...leave. If not, those dispirited people will be the albatross around the systems neck in the short-run...or leave the parish entirely in the long-run.

Either way, the school system fails. Quick death or long slow wasteful death.
