Who could have possibly seen that coming?

BTW, in another article Baltimore also broke their record for most carjackings. But it was adjusted for population since their population has been shrinking.

Send in the national guard. Baltimore is too dangerous for your average police force.

Who would want to be a cop in a place where they are quick to prosecute you for doing the job?

He's among activists who are calling for police reform to reduce the violence in Baltimore and several other high-crime cities across the U.S. that he says haven't seen change. That change begins with a conversation between the communities directly involved, Scott says.

"We need the front line police officers and we need the heart of the black community to step to the forefront of this discussion," he says. "And that's when we're going to see a decrease in crime."

what is communication with the decent/good people from the bad parts of town going to accomplish? serious question

those aren't the people likely to commit murder and i doubt the police want them going all vigilante

quote:

What I wanted to see happen was that people would be able to trust the relationship with our police department so that they would feel more comfortable. We'd have conversations with the police about crime in their neighborhood because they would feel safer. So we wanted the police there. We wanted them engaged in the community. We didn't want them beating the hell out of us, we didn't want that.

i still don't get what they want? more snitching? is that it?

quote:

I'm a preacher, I want to be hopeful, but not as it stands, no. Not until we really have a real conversation with our front line officers in the heart of our black communities that does not involve our people who are "leaders."

We need the front line police officers and we need the heart of the black community to step to the forefront of this discussion. And that's when we're going to see a decrease in crime.

Good luck with that.

Administration is openly hostile to LEOs and supports BLM.

Surprised they have any

It's like the anti crime rallies that they have in which nothing remotely is accomplished

Black people blame white cops for killing too many bad black people. Cops say fine, we'll just stop patrolling high crime areas. Black people blame white cops for blacks killing too many blacks.

Yet black people can't see a pattern here.

They really have no other option than to deflect and resort to meaningless platitudes

They'll never admit the realities of poor communities

I lived in Baltimore for a few years before the Freddy Gray incident. It was not a nice place to live then. They plead for outside help then treat them like shot when they come to help. I agree the National guard is at the top of the list right now on options.

They want more cops, but they hate cops.

The police in Baltimore have a fine line to walk. Very sad.

You are getting close to the heart of the matter.

The biggest thing the police need is to be told exactly what is wanted from them.

Fred Reed captured this in the following article he wrote last year:

Questions for Black Lives Matter

quote:

Do you want white policemen excluded from black neighborhoods?

The available answers are “yes,” and “no.” I do not mean to be abrupt about this, but vague considerations of abstract justice, alleged discrimination, and racism do not provide usable answers. So, do you want white cops pulled from black neighborhoods, or not? It’s one or the other.

quote:

Do you want any policemen in your neighborhoods?

Here again a clear answer is needed. I have no stake in the question and do not want to impose my standards on you. Yet a concrete policy must be either no police, or police of some kind. Which?

quote:

What laws do you want cops to enforce in your neighborhoods?

Specifically what laws? Do you want the police to arrest crack dealers? Yes, or no. Again, I don’t care, and do not tell you what to do.

Yet cops need to know what they are expected to do. Should they stop people drinking in public, or allow it? Dealing drugs? Illegal parking? Public urination? Looting? Prostitution? I don’t care. Make any decision you like, but tell the cops clearly, and do not penalize them for doing what you tell them to do.

quote:

What should cops do when a criminal resists arrest?

This is an important question, in fact the important question. Nearly all of the complaints of shootings and beatings have involved resistance to arrest. It becomes explosive when white cops are involved. Here we need a clear answer. A cop cannot obey a vague abstraction.

Let us suppose that in a black neighborhood a cop sees a wanted drug dealer, rapist, killer, or burglar. He says, “You are under arrest,” and the rapist or wanted armed robber or coke dealer says, “frick off, white boy.”

What does BLM want the cop to do? Nothing? Something? What? Specifically, what? This is not a philosophical question. A cop in an actual situation has to do something, or nothing. I don’t care which. You tell me, and I will support your decision. But the cop has to know what is expected of him.

This is the MO of your standard black community activist moron. Unfortunately, it's caught on and viewed as a legitimate set of talking points. Just see the mayor of BR and her administration. They simply speak in vague platitudes and love to talk about having conversations and meetings. It allows them to give the impression that they're doing something without having to address the actual problems in their community. It's just like Deray McKesson when people ask him about white privilege and what to do about it. All platitudes.

More snitching would probably be a good thing.

Back in the 90s, black leaders wanted harsher sentencing laws Bc crime was so out of control, and Clinton gave it to them. Now those same sentencing laws are racist.

it's a powerful tool for idiots and sheep when you combine it with the requirement of subjectivity

they can always just hide behind "if you lived my life, you'd know and the fact that you don't understand shows you shouldn't be allowed at the table of this discussion". it's just bullshite sophistry that gets celebrated as intellectualism by idiots and sheep

also it's great when you try to use logic and get binary responses to questions and they attack you for not understanding nuance

their entire argument is nuance without any structure whatsoever, so of course that's what they fall back on when questioned
