The family of a Maryland woman who was fatally shot by police in 2016 after a six-hour standoff in her apartment was awarded more than $37 million Friday.

quote:

The jury of six women found that the first shot, which killed Gaines and wounded her then 5-year-old son, Kodi, was not reasonable and violated their civil rights under state and federal statutes, according to the newspaper

quote:

This win is for all of my sisters in the movement who have lost their children to police violence," she said.

quote:

He told jurors two officers had tried to serve arrest warrants on Gaines and her fiance that day. When no one would open the apartment door, officers eventually kicked it in, jurors heard. He said the first officer who entered the apartment was "confronted with Korryn Gaines with a shotgun pointed right at him."

This is the battle our country faces. Criminals in urban areas getting 37 million for simply being criminals.

I'm sure she was a queen.

What a complete shitshow by the jury.

Even her family admitted she had mental health issues and was off her meds.

Video (In the article) she took herself during a prior traffic stop shows her making crazy arse statements to the police, ranting they were gonna have to kill her.
quote:

According to the traffic incident report from the March 10 stop, a cardboard sign on the back of Gaines' car read, "Any Government official who compromises this pursuit to happiness and right to travel will be held criminally responsible and fined, as this is a natural right or freedom." Gaines' two children were in the back of her vehicle during the stop about 4 p.m. at Pikeswood Drive and Liberty Road, police said. When an officer asked for Gaines' license and registration, she responded that police did not have the authority to pull her over or ask her questions and claimed they were breaking the law by doing so.

Psycho bitch armed with a shotgun with a record of extreme threats and resisting against police.

Oh and the fiancé,
quote:

he has a criminal record in Baltimore, including for attempted murder

Around 3 p.m., after several hours of negotiation, police say Gaines raised the gun at officers and told them that she would kill them if they did not leave. The officers opened fire.

“Perceiving not only her actions, but the words she used, we discharged one round at her, in turn she fired several rounds back at us,” Police Chief Jim Johnson said during a news conference on Monday night. “We fired again at her, striking and killing her.

This is fricked up in so many ways.

Watch the traffic stop video. The psycho had some bizarre fixation on being a police victim.

So she shoots at officers , gets rightfully shot in return, and now her family gets $37 million dollars from tax payers?

they may never see it if they have laws and Constitution like Louisiana.

there are parishes and local governments that have millions in unpaid jury awards that are uncollectable

In Louisiana you can't seize government property so the only way it get paid is if the government appropriate the money, and many never do.

No. Ruby shot her first, then she tried to shoot, but was rushed by other officers.

While the other officers were rushing her, Ruby stayed back and shot 3 more times, which was in the direction of his own fellow officers. He also changed his story.

This seems like he made a series of extemely dangerous and unnecessary decisions that put the woman, her child, and fellow officers at risk. Although his decision didn't seem as egregious as many other police shootings.

But maybe the jury is just getting the taxpayers in the area ready for the slew of lawsuits that are probably going to be coming in as the Baltimore City corruption scandal intensifies with the recent convictions and likely many more to come.

Proof that the civil justice system has zero to do with the merits of the case and everything to do with the ability of the attorney to obtain a favorable finder of fact (judge or jury)

This is the mindset of how she was awarded 37 million.

6 hour standoff

Using her child as a hostage

But the cop put them in danger

Your mind is warped.
