We could leave our cars and houses unlocked overnight without a worry in the world.

We took our rifles to school during deer season and nobody cared.

I once gave a demo and shot my compound bow for a school project. Hit bullseye.

Plus, neighbors didn't care if you quail hunted, squirrel hunted or deer hunted (not that there were any deer back then) on their property as long as you didn't abuse it and you left it as you found it. Dove hunts were a little different because fields were usually prepped (didn't have the "agricultural process" restrictions back then). It was either by invite or actual pay hunts.

Going into a grocery store my dad saw someone had left their lights on...back then you could just walk over...turn them off for them...and keep walking.

A child could learn his numbers by being his dad’s tv remote.

We played tackle football in the yard, any yard, on weekends. Oftentimes, trees marked the some of the boundaries. Staying in bounds was at a premium. After a rainstorm was good times.

If you had pads/helmet from "pee wee" football you could wear it...sucked if you didn't.

Back in my day

...we didn't have Tide Pods, and even if we had, we'd never dream of eating them.

...we didn't have to worry about someone pulling a gun in a fight, and if you gave or took an arse-whipping, it was over right there.

...Dad said, "OK, go have fun, but check in at noon and be home before dark... and if I wasn't, he would show up no matter how far away I was or what distant pasture pond I was fishing in, and he'd tan my hide.

...we discovered granny snuff and then used it as it's intended to be used. Then, we promptly discovered why it had lost its popularity.

...we got our school clothes from garage sales and we were damned grateful to get them.

...we thought we knew literally everything... except when it came to our grandparents. They knew more and we'd never dream of pretending otherwise.

My first ever "video game system" was an Atari 2600 hooked to a 13" black and white TV.... and I couldn't have been more thrilled.

...poke salad fried with bacon was a delicacy, and it still is.

...we were just kids. We didn't notice skin color, and we didn't care whose parents had money and who was dirt poor.

...if a kid was a bully, he continued to be a bully until you finally had enough and beat him down. After that, he usually became a friend.

In my day cars didn't have freon . They needed gasoline, lots of oil after the first 20 to 45000 miles and tires every 10 to 15000 miles depending on travel surfaces. Still have a couple of them. Take the Spitfire for a 800 to 1000 mile three day road trip every year.

Saying 'frick' meant something. The proverbial air left the room, the piano player stopped playing, and someone was gonna die, if not enter a very worse state of living.

The only word that does that today is the N-word, and that word has too much hateful context to use.
