do the negative side effects from the drug do more harm than the disease?

My wife is very immuno-compromised due to Lupus, if you knew anybody with that disease you would know that its exhausting to just live when going through flares.

My wife hasnt had any negative side effects from the drug.

She gets more side effects from thr lupus meds she is on (anti malaria, steriods)

How is it socialism? Seriously asking, just because there’s government intervention doesn’t make it socialism in my opinion. The government didn’t take over, they bargained down better prices for the consumer. Prices other countries, even non socialists countries, were already paying.

Do you mean diabetes?

I mean if you aren't going to change your diet and address the underlying reason for the problems, then the drug is certainly much better than doing nothing at all.

The reality is diabetes is mostly a result of an eating disorder. Yes, I know there are exceptions, but exceptions don't change the rule. Carbs are extremely addictive and do not satisfy you except for the temporary high from eating the carbs, or because you are so stuffed you're damn near miserable - and even then you still have the cravings.

Foods high in fat are the opposite. They will satisfy you and cure your hunger. You won't get cravings, your blood sugar won't spike, etc. You can eat less than 2000 calories a day and never be hungry. It's hard to get into the habits, but once established it's not that bad.

If you have any kind of inflammation related problems, it'll help with those too. Carbs cause heavy inflammation.

I do know someone, but that's beside the point. I was just pointing out diabetes can be prevented and/or cured for most people by diet.

If you don't think Ozempic has long term side effects, then you haven't done your research. Not that I've done a ton on it, but I did just recently see headlines about it.

yes.

but there are plenty of diseases that can be attributed to bad diet, habits, etc and those people take meds to help since they won't change their lifestyle.

Just seems like diabetics get trashed by everyone when sometimes they aren't fat and lazy. If the same person has congestive heart failure, also linked to diet and bad habits you never hear about people mocking them

This is big news. We are going to very quickly go from a fat and lazy country to a thin and lazy country!

I wasn't mocking anyone. I'm just trying to point out there are better alternatives that don't harm organs in your body.

Keto has been the base of my diet for over 7 years, maybe longer. I'm speaking from experience. I never had diabetes but my numbers were starting to rise and my blood pressure wasn't great and weight was climbing etc. These days I'm not very strict, but sometimes I'll have to catch myself and reset things due to getting into bad habits etc. Most days I eat less than 30 carbs, and rarely over 100.

This is one of those things which is not a universal reality...there are MANY reasons why some folks struggle with their weight...yes a fraction comes down to will power but it certainly is not something one can fairly assign a blanket blame to.

Then she should be doing Carnivore, Total Carvivore, Ketovore, or Beef, Bacon, Butter, and Eggs diet. Any of those will stop the 'flare' dead in its tracks.

If we are on the hook for these people’s healthcare costs anyway, I have to believe the thin and lazy could cost appreciably less long term than the fat and lazy.

I recognize that’s a shite philosophical argument, but the reality of the situation is still the reality.

There was a fun little wrinkle where it can be related to an accelerated degradation of the inner eye, causing premature blindness.

Obesity leads to chronic illness and an overburden of our healthcare system.

Now we just need to end sodas and snacks on snap.
