I made the mistake of looking something up on Google the other day. Evidently the only guns that were banned were semi automatic rifles.
Aussies still have handguns, shotguns, and other types of rifles.
Blew my mind, I just assumed they literally turned in all their guns.
Now many Aussies did turn in their guns and there are strict rules about gun ownership, but the claim we keep repeating that they willingly disarmed is not entirely accurate.

As an Australian, and an Australian lawyer, I can tell you that it is almost impossible to get any kind of firearm. While some may be "legal" they are only available, in exceedingly rare circumstances, for people like professional hunters/pest control, farmers, and security. Even if you do manage to get a gun, the police can, and do, come to your house at all hours to "inspect" them. They don't need a warrant and have the right to search your entire house. If your guns are either not completely locked up or away from your house without "good reason", you're under arrest.
It is because the police and military control 99% of the guns in Australia that protests can be declared "illegal" and anyone that either attend one or encourages other to go, will be arrested. Look up Monica Smit. Monica is the leader of a registered Australian political party called "Reignite Democracy Australia". She is being held without bail for the crime of organizing a protest and challenging some of the lockdown measures. Her condition to receive bail are that she close down her political party and promise not to ever criticize the government or Chief Medical Officer. Crazy! This is the reason that I will NEVER take my family back there. The country was founded as a prison hundreds of years ago, and that's exactly what it is now.

Reading that I'm not a fan of us being "allies" with Australia. (But then our government is doing the same with the Jan 6th people)

Instead of going and making a show of force in DC it was just a bunch of FBI larpers.
