The first one was Shirley Franklin, and even the rednecks liked her. She was no-bullshite. She is the first ATL mayor to not get indicted for something in over 25 years.

Her family was still tied to Dobbs/Paschal/Jackson airport curroption like all the black mayors before her save Andy Young LINK

KLB is far more radical than her predecessors and barely won her rigged primary over a somewhat moderate white candidate.

White libs in city don't like her or the curropt black power structure that's been running the city for decades. She might win re-election but after she's done she'll probably be the last black mayor for a long, long time IMO.

Yet they had no problem voting for her over Mary Norwood.

ETA: Most of the white libs in Atlanta I knew at the time were anti-Norwood because she was from Buckhead (yet now some of them complain about Bottoms).

She won by 700 votes and white libs overwhelmingly supported Mary Norwood and IF they had let the Emory area that was annexed by the city vote, Mary Norwood probably wins.

The family of William Hartsfield was seriously pissed about that. They were all over Atlanta news ripping the city for trying to take his name off the airport altogether.

That annexation didn't go into effect until after the election and only covered the Emory and CDC properties (which only required City Council approval).

You are correct on the timeline but it is around 7,000 residents and will probably be more in the next election cycle.

Doesnt change the fact the KLB barley squeeked by and didn't have the support of the large majority of white voters in her primary.

I guess you're referring to the on-campus Emory students?

Buckhead (in the city proper) says otherwise.

Too bad for her that the governor already signed off on it.

I think Florida would be a better strategic choice, but if it was Georgia, Chattanooga or Savannah would be nicer choices. Chattanooga would benefit Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.

Screw Atlanta. It is a cesspool anyway.

People on this board frequently think all of Atlanta proper is a shithole and that the real paradises can be found in Gwinnett and Cobb

And Gwinnett is slowly circling the drain.

Still has some great neighborhoods and schools but it's not the same place it was 10 years ago.
