The most rumblings I’ve heard regarding the suggestion of a second airport have been converting Dobbins to civilian use but I don’t think that is happening anytime.

I remember this getting significant traction when it was thought that Dobbins might be shuttered entirely by the military in the last round of BRAC.

Dobbins would be an excellent second airport on location alone, but the NIMBYs in the projected flight paths (which would go over the northern parts of Buckhead and the southern part of Sandy Springs) would kill it with the quickness.

It would.

It’s right off I 75, on the opposite side of the metro from Hartsfield, has large multi lane access roads, has a lot of land, and has a 10,000 foot runway.

But you’re right. The locals wouldn’t like the additional air traffic and Hartsfield (and probably Delta) would bring enormous pressure to bear I would think.

Meh. I have family in Memphis and have done business there for ages. Stayed downtown and never any issues. Stayed in Germantown. No issues. You just have to know where to go. I mean are you staying in the hood? You do realize it is 60% black right?? Were u planning on staying in orange mound?? Lmao.

Has the push for a 2nd ATL Airport in Paulding County ended?

It's actually a 10,000 acre tract near Dawsonville (Dawson Forest), which Atlanta still owns. The plan to build a second airport pretty much died when the city decided to build the current Midfield Terminal in the late 1970s (the original nearby 1961 terminal had been overcrowded almost from the moment it opened).

1) Will Atlanta ever sell that tract of land?
2) Why hasn’t Chattanooga stepped up to the plate to become a viable secondary airport?

I always thought the 2nd airport was likely to be in Cherokee or Forsyth Co. Either way it would be 20 to 30 years away. All those folks on the northside need an airport instead of trekking it all the way down to Atlanta.

That feeling of tension, that simmering threat of violence and danger, is prevalent in L5P but has spread all over the city to a degree.

I'm usually pretty chill about this kind of thing but you are 100% right. I've worked downtown for the past 10 years, frequently bar hopped with friends on the weekends around the traditional Atlanta neighborhoods since I've been old enough to do so, and there are some places even I won't go anymore. L5P? Absolutely not. Downtown by CNN and the sports arenas? No shot. O4W? LOL. That underlying tension has taken over the city, and the increased crime rate is reflecting it. The place is about to explode with crime.

1. Probably not

2. Why would they? Most of their flights end up going through ATL anyway.

It’s long dead. They tried putting a small amount of commercial flight at the existing general aviation airport on that tract and the NIMBYs there killed it.

Neither county wants it, and residents would go insane if you tried to build a large commercial airport in either area.
