The lines are more blurred now that the left has started burning down cities.

Republicans are more concerned with tax cuts than ballooning government debt.

In practical terms. Same difference between a mainline democrat and a "progressive" like Bernie. One is interesting in governing. One is interested in being pissed off all the time and rambling on about a bunch of ideas that don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of ever becoming policy.

Most of the people on this board are Republicans. They're not conservatives. You could honestly label a large percentage of them big government liberals because they're certainly not in favor of small government.

It's a little more wrinkled than that.

Conservatives are not defined by size of government

A conservative believes in Judeo-Christian morality. In valuing tradition over change for change's sake. A conservative believes when change is not necessary, it is necessary not to change.

To understand conservatism read The Conservative Mind by Russell Kirk

Ten Conservative Principles By Russell Kirk
quote:

In essence, the conservative person is simply one who finds the permanent things more pleasing than Chaos and Old Night. (Yet conservatives know, with Burke, that healthy “change is the means of our preservation.”) A people’s historic continuity of experience, says the conservative, offers a guide to policy far better than the abstract designs of coffee-house philosophers.

Democrat, liberal, Repulican, conservative... It's all about money and staying in power (or trying to secure it). They don't care about the average American.

Obama had 2 years in office with democratic controlled houses and passed one broken back foot healthcare bill. He did nothing else.

Trump has been in office almost a year with republican controlled houses and has accomplished nothing.

There is your answer. They are both terrible for this country.

this is not at all accurate of conservatives. conservatives want limited govt. they're not interested in being career politicians or part of the establishment. that's literally the opposite of what you're saying

holy moly what reality do you live in?

unemployment down.
illegal immigration down.
consumer confidence highest in decades.
repatriation.
temporary withdrawal from paris accords.
getting nato to start paying their dues.
housing market booming.
military success and strengthening.

either you're being obstinate or you're tragically uninformed

B.S. ...politicians may have good intentions for a few minutes, but when they get elected....it's eat or be eaten. Doesn't matter what party they're in. Raise money or go home. I've seen it close up. But hey, keep believing those shiny campaign fliers you get in the mail.

One is a political party, the other is a political philosophy. One can be a conservative and not be republican just as easily as one could be a republican, but not conservative.

There are still some Republicans in Washington D.C. There are no conservatives left.
