As technology advances, why do we need to even keep the traditional school model?

Hear me out before downvoting. Other than defacto daycare for parents and steady paychecks for school related employees, why do hundreds of children need to be forced to gather by government in a defenseless environent on a daily basis? Small groups with scattered web based classrooms could probably learn just as well.

And before someone says ‘socialization’ I will just mention that children were able to socialize and form relationships before government mandated schools and they have even more options to do so today.

Sorry, instinctively didn't read and ignored the rest of what you had to say because I was busy down voting

Start paying parents to school their kids on a merit based system. better grades = better pay. I would be down.

Would be called racist and only beneficial to whites.

Socialization is literally the only thing our schools were doing ok at 10 years ago, and now, they're even failing at that. Our entire schooling model, corriculum, schedule, etc. is all wrong.

but I think not. And as I've mentioned, we've all been quite content to demean government, drop civics and in general conspire to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry. The unawareness remains strong but compliance is obviously fading rapidly. This problem demands some serious, serious thinking - and not just poll driven, demographically-inspired messaging.

This is from Podesta’s email leak on Wikileaks.
They will never give up the indoctrination farm the liberal Teacher’s Union and Democratic Party is running.
I think schools should be abandoned and all education taught on-line with kids going to school only to test and for extracurricular activities like band or ball.
They do this during the winter in northern states now already.
It’s not like it was at school in the 70’s and 80’s.
We are destroying generations with the liberal schools

How do students learn to weld, fix a car, etc. on a computer? Vocational training cannot be entirely done on a computer.

They're not getting this kind of training at most traditional schools (i.e. k-12).

Ever notice how the problem as grown as school size has increased.

Before there were mega 6-7-8A or whatever sized CAFO's, back then 30-40-50 years ago kids got to be members of a society not merely attend. We got better football, but not better kids out of the deal. You could find a niche to fit in and not be lost among all the other loners. And at least the staff didn't have so many that they might have seen such a problem child before they exploded. ...And let's not get into the devaluation of human life (outside of the school situation).

I think that's a red herring. Not every state has moved in the direction of fewer, larger schools. Louisiana has gone the opposite way with more and smaller schools, and the same problems are being seen. Larger schools are great because they reduce the need for redundant infrastructure, redundant administrators, and they allow for more specialized programs and extracurricular activities.

If not they should be. Many states have Technical Schools for high school students. Comprehensive high schools also offer technical programs. Quality technical training is needed now more than any other time in history.

Living in Texas most high schools have those programs. I teach at middle school in a very conservative area and most teachers are conservative. No teacher union and my feeder high school has welding, auto, plus other cate programs like architecture, fashion design, interior design, culinary and others.

frick this. A majority of people’s fond memories in life come from the school days. That’s such a cool part of being a person, you’re thrown in this fishbowl with other people and you’re forced to develop relationships. I think it’s a net positive experience even if some things do need to be rethought.

And I think the quality of education would greatly suffer if entirely online. The competitive aspect was a big thing for me in high school, and it is an important part of a well rounded education to have class wide debates and discussions. Both of those aspects are completely lost with the online model.

No. We can't trust parents to properly teach children progressive ideals, the Govt must ensure this happens to continue our march toward progress
