Most of the problems recruiters face today with a decreasing amount of eligible enlistees stems from medical issues, mental health issues, prior drug use, obesity, and criminal history.
It was probably 5 or 6 years ago at at Future Ops conference at CENTCOM the lead off speaker said this would be a national security issue in less than 10 years, he was right.

I've seen many birthright citizens take the oath then get discharged numerous reasons, generally for being too fat or simply being nuts. My battalion, and the military reserve component in general, is fixing to cut loose a lot of folks because they're not deployable for one reason or another.
I bet if you actually looked at the numbers a higher percentage of white males were administeraviley discharged last year than immigrants who were attempting to trade military service for citizenship were.
People don't seem to understand how this works. Recruiters face pressure to meet numbers, They often times let recruits sign up when their paperwork isn't exactly kosher or whatever, and those people may serve for awhile, but eventually the paperwork catches up with them. It always does.

The article is missing that these individuals have cartel links.

40 out of 10,000 who were neglecting their obligations prior to basic and sketchy ties to gangs.

I am active duty and this is commonplace. The only reason it is an issue is because of all the immigration debate.
How does this happen? The clearances for those coming from overseas often takes much longer than their boot camp and intermediate training take to complete. So they will arrive at their first duty station. Then investigators will set a day/time to meet with them. Ask a series of questions and if they aren't satisfied or whatever the determination is they will be discharged for security reasons.
It is not simply because they are immigrants and it is ridiculous to believe that. We are a country of immigrants and those coming in through legal means are welcomed.

This is total bullshite! Many so call “immigrants” have served valiantly and died for the Stars and Stripes.
If anything serving in the military should be an immigrant’s “repayment” to America for their parents entering the US illegally.
Oh, btw, their are White, Black, Asian, Hispanic gangs in the US Military. There are undesirable people in every culture.

no offense to those but a lot of these people enlist for a four year contract and find a cush MOS like cook or human resources and leave after.... i think it's wasting money
Posted on 7/6/18 at 10:24 am to John Gotti
This is good. this sounds like cases of fraudulent enlistment.

There better be a damn good reason for discharging someone who wants to earn their citizenship through military service.
No. There shouldn't be ANY non citizens in the military. Ever. There should be NO PATH TO CITIZENSHIP through the military.
Institutions like the military should reflect the citizenry, not some gaggle of 3rd world immigrants who haven't been fully integrated into the society they live in.

Everyone here has screamed come here legally...why do people have a problem with immigrants coming here legally and serving the country before gaining full citizenship?
Am I crazy for not wanting people with citizenship to a foreign nation in our military? What other major world power lets foreigners join their army? And before you say France, the French Foreign Legion is a separate force exclusively of foreigners and no, the US does not need one of our own.

Turns out there was you just dont care and why the frick does the military have to explain anything to you about who they accept and who gets turned down. Ill answer that for you, They dont. fricking zero. Thats how much of an explanation you need or deserve.

No. This is the only reasonable position to have on the matter.
People need to get over the idea that being in the military is necessarily an act of honor.

You seem to be under the misapprehension that military service is a right.
