There are those that do not belong in the US Military for various reasons. Even though he was born here, the Ft. Hood shooter comes to mind.
PC kills. If there is a question on someones background. I would rather err on the side of caution.

Common sense would tell you, if you seek out people who are fluent in languages where your enemies live, you are going to risk recruiting....enemies. Thus more thorough background checks, and more denied.
But lets just focus on the fact that they were immigrants, and denied.
Wonder how many white males were denied for failing physicals? But no one fat shaming the military for that? Oh yeah they are US citizens, white, and probably stood during the national anthem as well so they dont count.

Plenty of white males cannot get a security clearances either...
I am betting most of the "foreign language" speakers were recruited for MOSs that required a Top Secret Clearance and those are even more difficult to get, as they should be...

I don't know why you're being downvoted but you're right.
I'll add to what I mentioned earlier. We need to continue to recruit the most qualified candidates and some of the best ones I've dealt with are older kids who come in to the military with some life experience and kids who come from ethnic families and speak languages other than English. A bilingual or trilingual candidate is highly valuable in many fields. I've even found that a lot of candidates with ethnic backgrounds are sometimes more willing to enlist than US citizens. The only issue with candidates of ethnic backgrounds is discussed in the article.

I don't agree with this.
If these folks are willing to serve our nation in return for citizenship then we should be all for this.
I smell frickery with this. The AP story made it out like this was very widespread but could only find 40 instances of this happening.
My guess is that something was amiss with their legal status prompting the discharge but the fricktards won't cover that part.

I'm almost willing to bet money that they fricked up to warrant a punitive discharge before they fulfilled their obligation of service in exchange for naturalization.

(((AG)))
@AG_Conservative
You should note the very same expert extensively quoted in the AP article specifically said that it was the Obama admin’s decision to pair the program with DACA “sounded the death knell for the program”. pic.twitter.com/TPr1FHF8Gu

For you to think Obama did not jam his foot on the accelerator with this shite is just naïve.

Nice, one-side, article to stoke the "anti-immigrant" flames. So 40/10,000 get cut (that's four-tenths-of-one-percent) and somehow we have a problem?
...and here we go:
I've seen many birthright citizens take the oath then get discharged numerous reasons, generally for being too fat or simply being nuts. My battalion, and the military reserve component in general, is fixing to cut loose a lot of folks (by orders from SECDEF Mattis) because they're not deployable for one reason or another.
quote:
Eligible recruits are required to have legal status in the U.S., such as a student visa, before enlisting. More than 5,000 immigrants were recruited into the program in 2016, and an estimated 10,000 are currently serving. Most go the Army, but some also go to the other military branches.
...and here we go:
quote:
Stock said the service members she’s heard from had been told the Defense Department had not managed to put them through extensive background checks, which include CIA, FBI and National Intelligence Agency screenings and counterintelligence interviews. Therefore, by default, they do not meet the background check requirement.
