No way this is constitutional, who needs dims when we have Republicans like this.

quote:

The law classifies knowingly filming within eight feet of officers as a class 3 misdemeanor, which is punishable by up to 30 days in jail, $500 in fines and up to a year in probation, according to Arizona law. The law says officers must warn anyone filming at least once before they can be charged with a crime.

Im sick of the system

So you can’t film them when you’re in your car and they come within 8’?

Stay the frick 8 ft away so the cops don't have to deal with you as a potential threat. Seems reasonable.

What about the cop's safety when he's trying to arrest/subdue someone, and their auntie/grandma/baby momma comes up to stick on iPhone 6 inches from his face and scream to "let my baby go". Now he's got to deal with threats from both sides

It works both ways

Until you are 20 feet away and the cop closes the distance to 6 feet for no other reason than to arrest you.

Could it possibly be that people trying to capture YouTube videos are getting in the way of police officers and interfering with their ability to do their jobs?

No, that explanation would make far too much sense. Let’s immediately assume this is something Orwellian

There are already laws on the books for this.

Did you read the bill?

quote:

NOTWITHSTANDING SUBSECTION A OF THIS SECTION, A PERSON WHO IS
22 THE SUBJECT OF POLICE CONTACT MAY RECORD THE ENCOUNTER IF THE PERSON IS
23 NOT INTERFERING WITH LAWFUL POLICE ACTIONS, INCLUDING SEARCHING,
24 HANDCUFFING OR ADMINISTERING A FIELD SOBRIETY TEST. THE OCCUPANTS OF A
25 VEHICLE THAT IS THE SUBJECT OF A POLICE STOP MAY RECORD THE ENCOUNTER IF
26 THE OCCUPANTS ARE NOT INTERFERING WITH LAWFUL POLICE ACTIONS.

Well, if that happens and you were filming, you will have pretty conclusive proof that he failed to give you the statutorily required warning.

The bill specifically excludes that particular activity.

It is always helpful to read the propose legislation about what you bitch, before commencing the bitching.
