I know they contribute to dems, but you have to admit they have done a lot for workers rights, safety, and wages.
Now scotus has ruled that if you work in a union workplace you don't have to pay union dues.
How is that fair? You are getting the benefit of the union without paying dues.

i support unions as in a group of workers banding together but don't support laws that force bargaining or force union payments for non-union members

What do they provide that the government already hasn't regulated other than strong-arming businesses into handing out raises that aren't necessarily deserved?

I'm against unions.

Public sector unions are an abomination. Private sector unions are...tolerable.

How is it fair to require someone to finance a political entity they vehemently oppose?

I agree with this. Unions do serve a purpose but should not be mandated.

Unions used to have their place, not anymore. They are nothing more than lobbyists for the most part, especially the UAW, and Teacher’s Union.

Eta: Most of the time, unions make for pretty fricking lazy employees, too.

They served their legitimate purpose long ago. Now they just cause political corruption, unemployment, and contribute to outsourcing

Well they are non union members so taking money from them would is and was theft... If a union is present and someone decides not to join and they benefit from it than so be it.

It only applies to public sector unions, where there shouldn't be unions anyway. Private sector union bargaining only benefits union members.

For the private sector, I think the threat of a union is better for both the employees and the company in the long run. I think pubic sector unions should be banned

I think unions are a relic. They serve no purpose, and are a good example of the "stuck in 1930's" mentality of Progressives. If people want to unionize, by all means go for it. However, it absolutely should be illegal to force union membership and dues. Public sector unions should also be illegal.

I think some construction trades have value as far as training and safety. I'm not crazy about the concept of public unions.

I think right-to-work is stupid in the sense that you already have a right to vote to be union/non-union and already can opt out of paying non-core dues. Right-to-work simply gives a person a second bite at the apple to opt-out at the same time you are a part of a bargaining unit. That's a strange situation to me and a free-rider concern IMO.

I respect freedom of association, so anyone ought to be able to negotiate together.

I also respect speech and property rights, so if you think public unions should be free to extort money from non-members, you're an unAmerican shitbag.

I disagree. I think private sector unionization is more of a threat to both the employees and the company in the long run as wages and other benefits are artificially increased by threats of striking which leads to an increase in the prices of the goods and services being provided, which makes that particular business less competitive against another business that aren't unionized, which leads to loss of sales and potentially going out of business, which results in job losses for both the employer and the employee.

Unions operate under the misguided notion that jobs belong to the employee rather than the employer.
