Are you ever surprised and disappointed by friends' apparent lack of concern over politics

? I mean your fairly close friends who, you know, are smart people but nevertheless just don't seem to care what's going on politically?

They don't care because they see that those politicians that do wrong never go to jail.

My best friend is like this and it bothers the hell out of me on one hand and on the other I wish I didn’t care like him

He is still of the belief that “politics don’t affect me”. Even though he is an avid gun guy so it’s really mind blowing

I tell people all the time, one day you are going to have to pick a side. The fight will come to your door eventually.

No. It’s a toxic thing. I hope people can be engaged but understand when they aren’t.

As soon as you understand all politicians are self serving, your attitude will change. I make it my mission to deem government as irrelevant to my life as possible.

To a degree, sure. That degree is pretty low though, and I wouldn't misconstrue carelessness with privacy, or a disinterest in political discussion.

I'm more pissed off at them, because those people are easily swayed to vote casually for whom the MSM dictates.

They're the target audience for really shitty campaign ads too.

Inexcusable. We need a citizenship (as in basic civics and governance) test for voting. And I'm dead fricking serious.

I don’t have friends that aren’t paying attention, anymore.

The ones who don't pay attention to politics don't bother me at all. The ones who follow mainstream talking points flabbergast me. The lack of critical thinking ability astonishes me daily.

It sounds like your friend is living a better life, and he makes fun of you to other people.

We don’t care about politics, because, in the scheme of things it doesn’t really matter. There is supposed to be a balance of power and basically gridlock to keep anyone from screwing things up too badly. Whenever the s ystem fails, and someone really screws things up, he simply gets voted out of office and the next guy fixes it.

It is kinda like a spectators sport....we all pull for one team or the other, but at the end of the day, none of it really matters much.

Most people are not impacted by day to day political issues.

Most people also feel that even if they were, there isn't much they can do about it.

More concerned about how many just follow a herd mentality.

I see it a lot with friends that work for big corporations and in with gay friends that I know.

They just spout off cliches instead of studying issues.
