The president doesn't give a state of the union address right after he takes office. He usually addresses both houses of congress. People confuse the two.

No. The new President does give a state of the Union address shortly after inauguration. It doesn’t wait a year.

He had to fly to Texas for a photo op before he rests up for a week b/c he'll have to stay up past 8:00pm and they have to figure out how to keep him on track unless Jill is gonna stand next to him the whole time.
